It's possible, Stevenson can punch but I would favour Kovalev as the better overall fighter. Too bad this fight might not happen.

No doubt his team is avoiding Kovalev...Stevenson has always been a bit chinny (and that is the last thing you want to be vs. Kovalev).

I recall BEFORE the Adonis vs. Bellew & Sergio vs. Sillakh double-header, there was talk of it being Adonis vs. Sergio. However, something happened and they choose to televise this double header to ‘promote’ the Adonis vs. Sergio fight, and we got Adonis vs. Bellew and Sergio vs. Ismail Sillakh. Both fighters were victories, the public was buzzing for the fight, networks were ready to televise it, AND…..nothing. Instead, Adonis ran to Showtime to fight the ultra dangerous and well known Andrzej Fonfara. This left Kovalev at HBO with no dance partner, at least not the one he thought he would get.

I believe this is nothing more than a strategy by his management to stay on the ‘money train’ for as long as they can. Think about it, IF they stayed at HBO and fought Kovalev as planned, and lost by brutal KO (which was likely), they would lose their status as the No.1 light heavyweight in the world, which would significantly reduce their earning power. However, by running to showtime, they were able to get fights with Andrzej Fonfara, Dmitry Sukhotsky, and Jean Pascal. BUT more importantly they were able to do it as the No.1 light heavyweight in the world, which allows them to demand and bring in more money.

So from a business perspective why risk everything fighting Kovalev, when they could make more money, with much less risk, fighting Andrzej Fonfara, Dmitry Sukhotsky, and Jean Pascal? The flip side to that is IF he fought and beat Kovalev he would be able to rake in even more money. I guess they would rather risk little to earn some, than risk all to earn everything.

it seriously is not important or relative what colour any of us are unless we make it relative correct members?

the point is the thread starter believes in Stevenson and not in Kovalev,,,, that's fair even if its considered a foolish belief,,,,,

anything is possible, I question Adonis as well, plus I think highly of Kov and would bet on Kov, that said the thread starter does seems to be reacting personally to his belief in Adonis being able to beat Kov.

lets not make this about colour. We been there and done that.

I am not saying one cant ever mention colour, however, even if someone is being RACIST and you start calling them a RACIST everyone still looses,,,,, let it be, unless its positive and even then be respectful about it keeping a open mind that what you feel is positive may not be from another persons personal opinion.

ok, lets all make up and be civil to all races,,,,,,

I think you're right about the business standpoint as to why Team Stevenson declined to go the Kovalev route.

However, I would like to add that this move may have backfired for a while. Right now, I see Kovalev vs Pascal being made in Montreal before Pascal vs Stevenson.

Team Stevenson will be starting negociations with Pascal, asking for 70% of the purse, as allowed per standards when fighting mandatories. That will not sit well with Pascal since he draws as much or more than Stevenson.

I think Kovalev will instead opt to get a piece of the money a Pascal fight could generate in Montreal. Another 18 000 + crowd for such a bout. They wouldn't get that anywhere else in the US.

Stevenson will be stuck without a meaningful fight before the end of 2015, if things finally go his way.

It seems like MVC!, SweetSciGuru, JAB5239, dinovelvet, attaboi, cisco route, derrick, DrMo and ellerbe are all the same person.

However, I think that while they all have very similar views, they are actually all different people.

By the way, "Cisco Route" is a Nay_Sayer alt.

Kovalev will hurt Stevenson. He doesn't like Stevenson, you can tell. I think it has to do with Stevenson's past, the way he beat women and pimped them.

Stevenson can not stand up to Kovalev. As soon as Stevenson is caught he will stay down. He is a coward who is only a big man when he is preying on the vulnerable.

Kovalev is BY FAR the more skilled fighter.

Kovalev uses feints, which counter-punchers like Stevenson hate.

Stevenson lowers his hands when he punches, tends to lunge, and tends to back up when someone throws a jab. Even in the Cloud fight, Stevenson backed up when Cloud threw a double jab.

Certainly wouldn't write Adonis off he's a talanted fighter shame he has gone out of his way to avoid a fight with Kovalev and it has back fired on him. No sympathy from me.

I actually think Hopkins still has enough pop to stop Adonis, especially if he hit him with the shot he hit SHumenov with, there'd be a possibility.
