Look Diaonu is what he is an exciting slugger who is B- at best. He picked up a title that was vacated. If he proves me wrong I'll be the first to admit it. BTW Dorin was twice the fighter Diaconu is.
So again why do you hate on him.You said you'r opinion, why do you continue with the outrageous posts after? And I agree Dorin was a greater fighter but there were a lot more reasons there.Dorin was rushed, wasn't fed popcorn,he was thrown to the lions and did it by himself mostly. He wasn't technically sound himself but still had some skills. But of course he was robbed of his unified chiampionship in the States.
Yeah,he had over 300 amateur fights,He was an european amateur medallist,2 time world amateur medallist and a olympian, his amateur career speaks for itself.
You may well be correct, but i'm not so sure Tommy ? Only time will tell i suppose ? He was a world class amateur, infact a world silver medalist, a veteran of over 300 amateur bouts. He's accumilated a wealth of experience from those fights, come across all sorts of styles. It will be interesting to see where he goes from here...
Amateurs means absolutely nothing. Tillman was a better amateur than Tyson. Look what happened when they got in the pro ring.
I will lay off of your boy.:good I want to ask you some questions about Dorin a fighter I enjoyed watching. I'm sure you think he was robbed in his fight with Spadafora, what are your thoughts? What do you think of his 2nd round KO loss to Gatti? Why did he retire?
Exactly. Having all that experience can only help you, he would have seen, and boxed against all sorts of fighters from around the world with different styles...
Tommy i'm fully aware amateur boxing doesn't compare to the professional ranks, it sure does help though. You're wrong saying it counts for nothing, it helps shape the fighter into what he'll eventually become
About Dorin, yes I thought along with most people that he was robbed. Most americans I talked to thik he was robbed, the brits say he was robbed,Lederman also had him winning clearly, and all american reviews had him winning. He won that fight.I say he won at least 7 rounds,I scored it at the time 8-4,it was a great fight, one of the best of 2003.About him,if you look at his career,he was thrown to the lions early on but made it by himself,he went to NY in his 3rd fight to take on a good opponent in Sean Knight and the commision didn't wanna santion the fight cuz they thought he wasn't good enough,he showed them in the ring.He had a great brawl that no one saw with Gary StClair when he was in his prime,I think just off a loss to Chico Corrales,a great brawl I repeat, those few who saw that fight in 200 know what I'm talking about, words can't descrine that fight,I can't find a tape myself anywhere. He went bigtime on Showtime when he beat undefeated Martin O'Malley in AC in 2001,I have that fight,it was a good fight,he made O'Malley look like a gargoyle at the end.Totally dominated and roughed him up.Then he went on ESPN to fight and UD Emanuel Augustus right after Emanuel fought Micky Ward. That was a pretty good fight,he shut Augustus out but he was pretty nervous at Emanuel's antics. We all know the great fight with Balbi for the title on HBO,then the rematch in Bucharest, that was great. Then Spadafora, then a toon-up with Tschorniawski and Gatti. Why he lost to Gatti?Simple,he was older, shorter, not in his weight, and most important,he himself said it years after the fight,he wasn't mentally ready,he basically said he had no heart anymore,if you followed him you know he had a huge heart. He basically took it for the money. He still hints at a comeback but he is like 175 lbs and is 38 so I don't think so.Anyway great fighter, never can forget him
Good stuff. I thought he got robbed in that fight and scored it 8-4 Dorin. Going into the Gatti fight I thought it would be a war and was excited about it. I was shocked at the outcome however. Dorin was a good fighter that I enjoyed watching and if his heart was no longer in it then it's best that he got out when he did.:good
