What would've been a smarter move to make yesterday? Seriously? Who else was offering Broner anything? What were all the better deals on the table yesterday that made this deal the wrong one? Broner walked out of Don King's office yesterday with $100,000 in cash ... that's $100,000 more than he had when he walked into that office. And look at that smile on Broner's face. That guy basically hasn't worked in four years. King threw him a lifeline. If most of us walked into a building and walked out with $100,000 in cash that would be a GOOD day. Whatever problems Broner had in his career previously, King had ZERO to do with them. And Broner's career was over. Nobody rates him in their top 15. Nobody was offering him fights. Now, King will do what King does to get Broner in position for a title fight as soon as possible. The narrative around King never includes "these moments" ... when King gambles on someone who isn't on the radar AT ALL and gives them money and a lifeline when no one else would. King has signed a lot of guys in his career who didn't pan out ... but most of them get their opportunities.
King could use his connections to fast track Broner to a title shot for one last decent payday. If it’s a 1 fight deal then it might not be such a bad move.
