Hello All, I've been watching boxing for about 3 or 4 years now (I'm 22 years old) and have now decided I'd quite like to get involved with some amateur boxing. I have no experience whatsoever, and haven't even been in any drunken fights at my local pub. Bar "stick to just watching it" what other advice would you give for someone who would want to get started as a boxer. I see it as a great way to build confidence up, get my upper body more fit (I play alot of football / soccer so the legs aren't too bad) and have some form of defence if ever (hopefully not) needed.
welcome to the world of amateur boxing. if you already play football and soccer you should be good in terms of fitness. i would advice you to just join a boxing gym(let your trainer solve whatever problems you have) good luck and have fun with boxing
Don't try to start training on your own. I hate when people do that, it only can cause bad habits and is obviously the wrong thing to do. Find a gym as soon as you can and you're good If you live in a city it should be relatively easy to find one, if not you might be in trouble...
Try working out at multiple boxing gyms. Each gym has its own personality so make sure you look at all your choices first. Every gym owner will tell you they are best around but find the one that will be the best for you. When going to the gym look at the gym equipment quality and quality of people working out. You obviously want to find a gym that has a lot of people your size, for sparring purposes. Having one sparring partner will limit your abilities. Boxing on your own does not work. If you live in a major city their should be at least 6 or 7 gyms around. Try them all out.
Alright mate your almost in teh exact same situation, except in away slightly behind as i have been to a boxing gym ( im currently traveling the world lol so cant at the mo) but when i get back itll be the first place ill be going. Basically all i can tell you is get in a gym and train hard. I was really nervous about joining the gym but at least with my gym i neednt have been. Very friendly and i cant recomend getting into a gym asap enough
