Hey everyone. I'm looking for advice on to be healthy and get stamina again. Basically when I was younger I used to play Sunday league football and athletics. (Cross country) I had amazing stamina I never stopped if everyone was meant to run around a athletics track 5 times I would do 10. When I was 16 I gave everything up due to low confidence and anxiety. I'm now pretty overweight (big guy) and I've gone from weighing around 130 pounds to about 185 pounds in fat. I struggle to do one press up whereas I used to be able to do a 1 handed one. I want to become healthy, start gym and accomplish my dream of becoming an amateur boxer. I've started of tonight and just went for a 5 minute jog and **** me I feel sick lol. And I only jog for 2 minutes before getting tired lol.
Do you have a garage? Go in there and shadow box for as long as you can. Minimum 15 minutes. Running is good. Diet is going to be the most important factor. What do you eat each day?
Just started training regulary again after 3-4 years of. I think I've moved from light heavy to super heavy in thoose years, and not in a good way. I believe the only way to get in shape is to get your (my) ass to the gym and do what the coach says 2-3 times a week. In my case the will to eat healthy (healthier) comes with the training. As long as you don't give up you'll be back. And don't feel that you're to unfit for a gym.
lol....spoken like someone who's never worked a day in their life. You don't need to change or formulate your career aspirations around a hobby. Just compensate by staying active, that's all. Basically, anything you do at this point will help you get in shape, so I won't recommend one particular exercise to get you going. ANYTHING you do that makes you breath hard and sweat is gonna help. When you run, start out wayyy slower than you think you need to run. When a body begins running, your muscles are in an oxygen deficit. Meaning basically, your lungs/breathing need a couple of minutes to "catch-up" to your muscles. If they don't...you gas out within the first couple of minutes, which sounds like what is happening. It's not so much 'what' you do at this point. The priority right now is to do something with 'consistency'. Which also means, you need to do something that you enjoy, so you don't get bored or discouraged. If you love running, run. If you hate running, try shadow boxing, if that doesn't work, try a boxercise class. Get my drift? ANYTHING that gets you moving, is challenging enough to make you sweat and pant, but not too hard that you get discouraged. Best of luck and let us know your progress!
Of course you felt sick, your body is making you pay the price for slacking off for so long. It is normal. Hopefully though, your true to your word and stick to what you said. Actions impress, words do not. Keep up the running and Speechless gives good advice about pacing. Like Angelo Dundee says, 'I don't care if you walk it, skip it, or run it. But do it...'
Spooken from someone who can't understand a joke or someone that don't think sitting still is a major challenge to our health?
