Earnest Matteen had an ugly style. He's the only boxer I've seen make James Toney not aesthetically pleasing.

Sam Soliman has the ugliest style I've ever seen on tv, Wilder a close 2nd. A prime Roy Jones and Tyson are the most aesthetically pleasing fighters for me. Their punching technique simply cannot be matched, their speed/power and precision was a thing to behold.

I love watching Eddie Mustafa Muhammad. So smooth and unruffled, effortless power and body punching. His main trouble was actually getting too laid back. He could have been one of the greatest Light Heavyweights ever if only he had a bit more fire.

Ali pre-exile wasn't overly orthodox but man was he sweet to watch.

Edwin Rosario in full cry was impressive. Sometimes he could be a bit stiff but when he flowed he flowed.

He could have ended that bout much sooner than he did, but as another poster put it so well, Eddie was in that mode of "pulling a fly's wings off one by one"...and was in no hurry at all. One of my favorite performances of anyone's.

A great fighter who I can't clearly decide on is Emile Griffith...he was a beautiful fighter to behold in that 1st Tiger bout, but he was quite ugly in that incredibly rare 2nd Benvenuti bout and the 2 Archer fights.

Cheers Red. I have watched that dissection many times. Didn't mind him against Jerry Martin either. So much skill yet so much power.

    Aesthetically pleasing:
-Ricardo Lopez - he never seemed to be out of position or off balance and looked good with everything he threw. A fighter who was as perfect as his record (51-0-1) suggests.
-Wildred Benitez - One of the most naturally gifted fighters that ever lived, he was a beautiful boxer with radar-like defensive moves. His ability to avoid getting hit by mere milimetres was remarkable.

    Ugly:
-Rafael Limon's already been mentioned but was the first fighter that came to my mind. Wide and wild swinging hooks, horrible defense but he was actually great to watch despite his ugly style.
-Deontay Wilder - that pendulum-like overhand right is a thing of great ugliness.

Monzon v Napoles might run it close. I think that's why Monzon was underrated by people in the 1970s. They thought he couldn't be that good a fighter and look that awkward. But his style was more effective than it looked. I don't think he really got credit as a top fighter until he beat Napoles.
