I think that may be a bit exaggerated. Arlovksi has great athletic ability. Great speed, and power. He has never been submitted, and his grappling is very underrated because he is good enough at grappling to not have to use it, as he likes to keep it standing. He has some of the most dangerous striking in the world. Arlovski has one problem, and it has been the same problem his entire career.... he loses his composure.
Affliction reports low salary for Fedor to avoid taxes, nothing else. He gets a minimum of 2 mil, per fight plus win bonus i'm sure of it
No. He was unfortunate enough to sign on with the company before they really took off. They weren't able to give him such a huge contract at the time. I am sure that it will be restructured or he will get a much larger contract when his current one runs out though. If they were going to lie about Fedor's salary in order to avoid taxes, then they would just lie about everyone's salary. Especially someone like Arlovski who pulled in 1.5 million. You see the same thing in all sports. There are some football players who are well underpaid due to the timing of their contract signing. It isn't unusual to see the best player in his position having a smaller contract than several lesser players in the same position.
There are other ways to supplement contracts. Personal appearances, endorsements and even more creative ways. I know as fans we hope Fedor 'gets his'.
Apart from Fedor getting only $300,000 and Arlovski getting $1,500,000, the one that I thought was questionable was Babalu. Only $90,000? When Lindland got $225,000? Babalu deserves more, I think.
Not Much an issue with Babalu, hed get paid alot less in the UFC. This is why Affliction has a chance to make it and be a long time competitor or evenb beating out the UFC. They put the fighters first, and the proof is in the pudding. Not just the money, they really showcase them. Even at the start of the event they introduced them to the fans. Now if they can only work on some kind of health insurance, pension for fighters..that'll be great. Of course any Org who has a huge payroll budget like this will have a hard time making profits early on. But once they starts breaking even and squeaking profits. I seriously believe they will be the more predominant MMA org.
only prob is how many fights can they get a year? do the other fighters have to sit around and wait until Fedor is on a card before they get a fight. And what happens if Fedor should lose or retire, banking an org on 1 guy is risky even if it is Fedor. Just ask Elite XC.
They definitely need to sign some Elite Free agenst especially the big four Le, Noons, LAwler and Diaz (the last two wont sign with Dana). They have some young talent like Horodecki and some Russians. Tito needs to fight again, Belfort hopefully is back, hes only 31. You must remember the UFC killed themselves with their recent signings Wandy, Nog (both shot) Shogun (Bust) Machida,Okami(not great for TV) Randy and Chuck (their two biggest names) done. Rampage (win some lose some) not worth what they expected of him Silva and Lesnar were the only good signings The UFC has peaked
The numbers don't really tell the whole story, they are only the fight purses. Their are many ways to pay the fighters other than fight purses, and they don't need to be reported to the commission. Fedor's management owns M1, and he could be receiving a salary through any number of the companies involved for just being an employee, not for a specific fight.
