Latest installment on Hall's budding boxing career:

Green tempts Hall with the right hook to become a boxer
from Herald Sun by Daniel Lane (July 12, 2009)

BARRY HALL met with boxing champion Danny Green at Moore Park's Entertainment Quarter on Friday afternoon to discuss a possible pugilistic career - and there was no mention of the former Swan fighting for world titles.

Green, a former world champion, runs Green Machine Promotions companyand is keen to recruit Hall to fight for him but he offered the former Swan what he called a realistic sales pitch.

"I told Barry first and foremost he would always have a say in the direction of his boxing career and from my dealings with him I think he would expect that," Green told The Sun-Herald .

"I outlined what I imagine Barry would think was a well structured and well thought-out blueprint.

"It is basically a plan to proceed carefully and to get Barry experience under his belt before he looked at things like national titles. He wouldn't fight for an Australian belt until he was ready.

"I also explained to him he'd have great support staff. Angelo Hyder has the best black book in the business; apart from Anthony Mundine and Michael Katsidis, he's played a hand in getting any Australian who has fought for a world title over the last eight or so years their shot.

"In terms of strength and conditioning trainers he'd have access to two world authorities in Craig Catterick and Hayden Knowles, who run http://www.fast4football.com . As for Green Machine Promotions, I think our record speaks for itself. We co-promoted Australia's biggest fight [Green v Mundine], we've promoted a successful world title fight, we are in the process of bringing Roy Jones jnr - one of the sport's greatest names - to fight in Australia. We have credibility and we also have contacts in the boxing world, the media and the corporate world to ensure he was as successful as possible."

Green, who has invited Hall to travel with him to America to watch him fight for the world IBO cruiserweight title next month, was adamant Hall had the ability to succeed.

"Make no mistake about it, Barry Hall was a boxer long before he was a footballer," Green said. "Internationally, he'd have appeal because he is from the land Down Under and he's tough. He has the reputation of being a very hard man from a very hard sport. People will be fascinated to see how he goes in the hardest sport of all.

"From training with him and seeing him box it's obvious his father, who trained Barry in their back shed in the Victorian bush, has done a tremendous job to instil the basics. He's maintained his passion for boxing because his skill level is very respectable, and he has size, speed, co-ordination and agility. I can't see why at 32 he would not eventually make an impact at an international level." If he was to fight professionally it would be expected he would fight on the undercard of the proposed Green-Roy Jones jnr bill in November. Hall would not make any comment on his future.

    Hall vs Sonny Bill firming:

Boxing writer Chris Korner believes Barry Hall will square off against Sonny Bill Williams on Danny Green vs Anthony Mundine II. With a possible date January 26 (Australia Day) and venue, Perth.

“Barry Hall is close with Danny Green’s camp and Sonny Bill is close with Mundine, so we’re looking at an AFL-NRL showdown.” according to Korner.

“It’s going to have a massive build up and will be fantastic for the sport.”

Korner reckons an announcement on the date and venue for the fight could be made as early as August.

Comment: Could be a tight fit with a suposedly cruiser weight Green engaged in the States in mid August, and then highly likely to meet Roy Jones Jnr over here, again at cruiser weight. Makes Green v Mundine II look more likely than ever to be at light heavy.

Also, is there scope for Green v Jones II? Particularly if Green happened to win a close contest that resulted in lots of loot for both, and Jones was still hungry to grab that last title!

Latest rumour is BARRY HALL to fight on the David Tua vs Shane Cameron undercard, in NZ, Oct 3rd.

The Sun-Herald has reported that a source close to the promoter has confirmed that a contract's been drawn up for Hall, and it is understood they have offered him 5 per cent of all Australian pay per view sales (expected to be approx $100,000).

World title contender Danny Green, who has been closely linked to Hall, said he had not heard anything about the NZ offer. Hall was expected to travel to the US next week to watch Green prepare for his IBO cruiserweight world title on August 15.

I'll believe this one when I see it, but Barry Hall in boxing gloves can't be too far away IMO, and I'd be surprised if he's not on the pending Green vs Roy Jones card.

4% of $100k, hall would want a lot more than that!
they offered green an under card position for farks sake.
in NZ that is a big fight, but anywhere else they know it means ntohing so are trying to get anybody with an Oz support on it to try and build sales.

I beleive that they are saying is that 5% of the Aussie PPV is about $100,000 and would be Hall's share (as you said 5% of $100,000 is too little - about $4,000 only and unlikely to be enough to get him out of bed that morning).

You're probably right Rongee...only passing on the news report.

IMO he will fight, and fairly soon. The press obviously think similarly and are trying for the 'scoop' story, as they always do.

In this case he may well have received an offer - but whether he accepts it is another thing.

I reckon his debut will be pitched for maximum effect (and $$$) and you can just about bet your arse that he'll be on the Green v Jones card (if it happens).

Barry Halls career should look something like this:
    1st fight
Fights an absolute tomato can who has fought at super middle weight most of his life with a record of 2 wins 19 losses 3 draws,
    2nd fight .
    another journey man,record 4 wins, 20 losses.
From here on in, continues fighting guys with losing records
Ends up winning some pan pacific bullsht belt.
Builds a welll padded record that even Anthony Mundine will be proud of :p
Finally he tries to step it up against a guy with a decent chin, who for once holds a winning record .Barry Hall ends up struggling and losing via wide UD decision.

Calls it quits and asks the AFL if he can come back.
Fails to make an impact on the game after such a lengthy time away from the sport, and retires from the sport a 2nd time.

100% spot on except for 1 crucial element. You forgot to include the part where Johnny Lewis states that Barry could compete against and beat some of the best heavyweights in the world all the while having a straight face.
