floyd just did what he usually does, biding his time and seeing what his opponent's got, letting conor tire himself out while expending no energy himself, working out the best way of countering his style and then executing that from about r4 on. he was definitely slower than usual and whiffing some shots, and he took some time to adapt to the size, length and awkwardness of conor, but was never in any trouble and had it all under control, people seem to forget he allllways does this. you can call it 'carrying' conor if you want but if that's the case, he's carried a number of opponents in the first three rounds throughout his career. i think it's better described as cautiously scoping out what he was up against before moving in for the kill.
Nope. I figured Floyd would take anywhere from two to four rounds to see what he had in front of him and to figure out how to deal with it. I do think he was a little bit surprised by the fact that Mac chose to lay back and box a bit in the VK mode rather than come forward and spam the left, and perhaps a bit unsettled by Conor's length and reach; but once he had McGregor's rhythm figured out and decided to move forward I figured that the competitive phase of the fight had ended.
I wonder if some of you guys have actually ever watched Mayweather fight before. If you've ever noticed he doesn't use the shoulder roll much against southpaws like McGregor, he tends to do what he did in the early rounds and keep his hands up. Also it's not the first time we've seen him walk a fighter down, he did it vs Mosley too, Floyd was never forced to do anything he didn't want to, he was in total control in this fight from the first minute to the last minute. He obviously gave away the first 3 rounds. He threw a total of 28 punches in the first 3 rounds combined. He wasn't even trying to win those rounds. Then in the 4th McGregor came out swinging and unloaded with a two fisted barrage for the first time and that's when Mayweather clearly decided to switch it up. He threw more punches in the 4th than the first 3 rounds combined and this was the round that things started turning against McGregor. Floyd had a good look at him in those first 3 rounds and when he saw McGregor go up a gear, he responded, pure and simple and took over.
Floyd wanted the knock out and knew it was garanteeed when he gassed. Surlrised he didn't scalp him earlier. But guess he wanted to stretch it out a bit. He was smiling and walking forwards nonchalantly as conor has zero power in boxing
I just don't get why people try and compare MMA and Boxing. And who is better? They are 2 completely different sports. If you are either a successful boxer or a successful MMA fighter, you are good and tough in the sport that you do. MMA guys lose in the boxing ring against the boxer under boxing rules. And the boxer loses to the MMA guys in the octagon under MMA rules. It's just that simple. Of course you will have a once in a blue moon upset every 10 years. If anyone thought that McGregor had a chance against Mayweather in boxing or Mayweather would have a chance against McGregor in the Octagon, then you are simply a believer of the "hype" and not knowledgeable about boxing and MMA.
Mc Gregor seemed more interested in trying to dry hump him than box him tbh, would explain the erection at the weigh in...
Yet you bring up garry goodridge who fought a three men bout 20 years ago when mma wasn't even sanctioned... You're biased i had enough of it, i already proven my point that you are biased, i don't need to beat a dead horse
Hmmm.. how on earth can the referee Robert ''You Got it Al'' Byrd determine if that perfectly legal body shot from Mac that absolutely wrecked Floyd was low or not from where he's standing, Serge?
Floyd wasn't interested in boxing per se which is his modus operandi. It was part of the game plan to tire out McGregor. If Floyd boxes, he gets called a runner. If he's out for the KO, which included letting Conor expend his energy in the early rounds, Floyd gets criticized. Floyd represented boxing well and executed the perfect game plan for the end result. Would I have been happier if it was another Gatti-esque performance? YES, but that version of Floyd is long gone. Face the facts, Floyd is nearly 41. I'm angry the ref saved McGregor from a humiliating KO.
Idk man i roll at ATT and im around. Allot of upcoming guys or guys looking to hit the scene and i just don't get that impression. But i have used the protector guards, they are alright, the problem with me is if i use anything other than open face i don't feel comfortable so the sparring wouldn't even be worth it. My head is pretty big, when i used the protector guard i felt like my big head was 2x the size, and it made my head shake around allot when i got hit because the guard was acting like a leverage point, i know they are good, it's just a mental thing. Also maybe my mouth guard was trash, but i had it fit properly and i still kept giving me busted lips, which would result in ulcerations from the irritation, and boy did those suck, going a week with a ulcer in your mouth and not being able to eat without pain. Idk its not my thing anymore, when i was 17-19 i went hard, and it seemed everyone wanted some hard rounds, nobody was willing to move around just to exchange looks, i get the mentality but i wasn't trying to be a golden glove like allot of the cats i would box with, so i get it. I still hit the heavy bag, and do drills with the slip bag. i like bjj cause its like Physical chess, and i dont feel too beat up other than some neck pain after a hard rolling session, it's adapated to my lifestyle better. I would still spar but only with a friend, my days of hard sparring is over, im not looking to step into the ring with anymore people with champion or winner mentality, because im the same way i don't Like to lose, no matter how light it starts, it always ends up being a legit boxing match..which isn't bad if you're trying to be someone in boxing, but i wasn't
how is connor a better athlete lmao... he is 29yo in his prime and was gassed after 6 round lol you realize Floyd could have made 30 round like that at 40yo and retired..
