I think you underestimate how stupid and gullible his fans are. These are the same people who thought Ronda Rousey could beat almost any male welterweight boxer. Hell, these are the same people that thought McTapout was going to KO Mayweather.
Good point! He did fire up his boasting engines again and rooster strutted to his fans' frenzied delight. STRANGE!
Guess I was wrong then. Probably will see him again in one of those skin tight dress suits boasting about how he will pulverize Mallignaggi simply by tapping him on his chin.
Don't really know where people get the idea that McGregor did well. From how I viewed it and to me it was plain to see, Mayweather went about fighting McGregor almost like how a dad would go about sparring his small son. I mean really, Mayweather literally put his guard as an invite for his son to go on ahead and punch away at him. I think Mayweather sensed right away he could go that route with McGregor as McGregor wasn't putting any leverage behind his punches. McGregor was supposed to be a puncher and danger to Mayweather with 8oz gloves on? No leverage and no snap at all on his punches. With the types of punches McGregor was throwing, he couldn't have knocked out a lightweight ranked above top 30 in the division, much less a welterweight. McGregor came to fight? I just don't see that. His pitter patter punches reminded me of one Manuel "Mantecas" Medina. A featherweight of the past with just about zero punching power, all pitter patter. McGregor must have hired him to instruct him how to box because that's exactly how he attempted to box Floyd. I was really surprised McGregor gassed as much as he did when the pace was slow and he wasn't throwing big shots. I think any of the top fighters in the sport could have fought 30 rounds at the pace McGregor fought throwing pitter patter punches. As for Mayweather, he did what he always does. He analyzed the situation. Feeled out McGregor for 2 or 3 rounds to see what he would be dealing with, and then realized McGregor had nothing to offer and that he better do something to make the fight somewhat enjoyable to watch for the millions of viewers who had bought the PPV. What the gullible viewers saw was Mayweather toying with McGregor and making it look like McGregor is competing. LOL! For Gods sake look at the situation. The fighter being outweighed by 20+ pounds is at a high guard and up close inviting the much bigger fighter to punch him. LOL! That my friend is classic Daddy playing with son!!! LOL! I just wasn't impressed with anything McGregor did. He really fought a survival fight and was hoping he could last the distance from what I saw. As soon as Mayweather turned up the volume even a little bit in the 8th and 9th round, it was plain to see he could finish the fight anytime he wished.
This needed to be a thread? You couldn't post in that discussion thread? McGregor did well in the first half. He faltered after that. It went as expected really. He's not a boxer. Old news now...
Who gives a ****? It was a freak show anyway, totally scripted from press conferences to the end of the fight.
Some people actually gave McGregor 5/6 rounds, and believe if it wasn't for him gassing he would have won a decision
I never gave to fhooks and still don't The real fight is next month when here you go take my belt gets good boyed
5 or 6 rounds, no he didn't win. He probably won the first 3 and round 8, and that's more than anyone expected of him, even if Floyd wasn't taking it particularly seriously, so yeah, for what it was he did do well, nothing wrong with saying that. Also, that bodyshot at the start of the 9th wasn't low to me, and hurt Floyd. So, that's more than a lot of fighters have done to him. I'm a boxing guy, not mma, but I can give him his dues, even though Floyd was probably at 70%. He was a novice.
Floyd had fun in there, he didn't take it seriously one bit. that is why mid way through he was winking to the commentators and smiling in Conor's face while walking him down before completely raping him without breaking much of a sweat. The easiest payday he has ever earned.
Have you considered the possibility that this was bout had been meticulously rehearsed? I mean. come on! They do it in professional wrestling all the time in order to make the contest appear as realistic as possible. They go to some gym, plan what will happen at the start and how the bout will finish. Connors throwing punches without leverage? The Connors who is a fervent student of Bruce Lee? Doesn't know how to power punch? Power punching by employing, hips torso and legs is one of the basics taught in the martial arts. No big secret.
