He defended against some patsies but couldn't for some reason get a mega fight with Tyson, Bowe, Lewis or Holyfield. If I was one of those guys I would have fought Foreman for free just to be the linear champ.

Or Holmes. Foreman basically won the title with a semi-lucky punch after taking a beating, and held on to the title in a controversial fashion, but finnaly lost it in a decision he should have gotten IMO.

Yeah, it was interesting that he got the gift decisions vs. Schulz, Stewart et al but that he lost the decisions when he finally got the belt

Didn't he duck Lewis though? I remember he won two belts from Moorer and that he pitched one to avoid the mandatory, but I forgot who it was.

He choose not to give Schultz a rematch. And the Stewart decision was no gift. Sure he many of looked the loser at the end physically, but he did very much deserve the decision.

George winning the title was a great feel-good story, but as a result, the division was a mess for sometime as the two titles he won splintered when he was eventually stripped of each.

Incidentally, as was already mentioned, I thought Foreman clearly beat Briggs.

He won the title and was forced to take on that big ****ing lummox Tony Tucker, who'd (once again) become mandatory contender for doing next to **** all and boring ten kinds of shite out of everyone. The WBA stipped George and that big soft lemon was then given his title chance- and was beaten up by BRUCE SELDON!!!! :huh :D

By that point, Tucker was worn out from his wars with the likes of Orlin Norris and the fearsome Frankie "Tennehesse Stud" Swindell.

That's because he didn't want them.

Foreman can call out anyone he wants to, but action speaks louder than words. And the action to pay $250.000 to the sanctioning people so he would be allowed to fight Schulz (or was it Savarese) spoke clear enough to me.

The Schulz fight was one of the worst robberies of the decade. I remember it being about the only time i've ever felt sorry for a German.*

    * But I got over it, a second later.

George said he wanted no part of Bowe and Lewis.

I believe Foreman was waiting for the mega, mega, mega, mega payday against Tyson.

He said on the air after Bowe destroyed Gonzalez that he wouldn't fight him. I think he said similar things about Lewis.

What George says should be taken with a grain of salt, but like it was said above, actions speak louder than words.

Exactly! George often gets a free pass for many of his boxing-related actions during his second stint as champion, but the guy was just as conniving and underhanded as Don King or Bob Arum in my opinion. Fighting Schultz was a travesty, and George deserved to lose that fight and his championship for selecting an unranked fighter to fight in his first title defense. And who actually believes that George didn't know that Bob Arum paid $250,000 to get Schultz ranked? George was angling for a Tyson fight, and he didn't want to fight anyone that would jeopardize a mega-fight with Tyson, but Schultz did exactly that, but he got screwed! George may be a preacher and a guy who donates millions to charity, but he can be as big a scoundrel as the next guy!
