Wilder despite having a huge height and reach advantage was get outboxed by the much smaller Ortiz and was almost knocked out in the 7th. From the opening bell Wilder looked terrified to commit in case he got tagged. It was fortunate that Ortiz didn`t have Joshua`s power or it would have been all over. AJ will make short work of Wilder. Clearly if team AJ are being sensible the won`t have the fight in the USA as we`ve see n the type of scoring that will go on. After talking all that smack Wilder puts on a dismal showing like that to win by the skin of his teeth. lol
He has no chin but Joshua has....... It's a case of who lands first with this pair, i happen to believe Wilder will get there before Joshua and call it goodnight.
I had coin on Wilder. Heart in throat round 7 on. Wilder was definitely being outboxed for long stretches and he obviously doesn’t exactly react well to clean shots. AJ might certainly make short work of Wilder. But One could say the same thing about Wilder making short work of AJ. Should be a doozy of a fight when it gets made and for anyone to count out either man completely would be a mistake in my opinion. Not sure why you are bringing up scoring in the USA, King Fury, after saying AJ makes short work of Wilder. We can all agree the fight is probably not going 12.
Harsh to say he has no chin. He has a decent chin at least. But I agree with the fact that he can't box. Or at least not at the very highest level. AJ is definitely the better boxer of the two, and is currently focusing on that aspect in the last 2 or 3 camps, and it's slowly improving. Thing is, what happens when he fights fury, when he has to give up the height advantage. Or even when he fights Joshua and both guys are similarly sized. Joshua and Fury are much heavier than Wilder, I think he struggles to knock them out. He also has to deal with a moving target when he fights fury, that makes his jab, right hand spam irrelevant, because it won't work against fury. Wilder's fought 40 opponents who stand in front of him, which allows him to setup the right hand easy. Against fury, he has to box him. And if Klitschko can't outbox Fury, then Wilder most certainly cannot. All the talk about Joshua's chin is very harsh. He got hit with an outrageous shot by Wladimir Klitschko, perfectly timed, perfectly thought out, perfectly thrown, perfectly setup and in the right spot pretty much. Wilder's got power, but he isn't throwing that sort of shot in a million years. Wilder-Joshua should be predicted after we see the lighter, faster Joshua and what the decrease in weight has done to him. If it allows him to be even more dominant as we suspect, Wilder is is deep trouble.
some of the shots that Wilder lands from the sides can be worse than Wlads. Take for example this crazy left hook from deontay which landed right on the side of the head of Ortiz leading to a KD. Thats one crazy shot
I give Wilder a C in a real test against a decent HW. Not going to say Wilder got lucky but Ortiz got a little exchange friendly in some flurries. Ortiz had that in the bag. Anybody at HW can crack and Ortiz forgot that rule.
This. Joshua isn't a southpaw, isn't as skilled, and isn't as efficient as Ortiz is. Ortiz is the first person I've seen make Wilder tire. Those well timed body shots and straight left counters were really starting to take their tole on Wilder.
you can't say he doesn't have a chin after lastnight its a decent chin at worse... his boxing skills besides his power though are terrible.
the fight was real good to be honest I wouldn't mind a rematch.. I think Ortiz did enough to earn a 2ndfight.. I mean if stiverne got a 2nd shot ... why can't Ortiz after the performance?
If Wilder and Joshua do happen to fight it should be on a level playing field. I happen to think it would be very unlikely a fight between the two would go the distance HOWEVER should i go the full 12 rounds both fight should receive a fair shake, that clearly would not happen in the United States. Joshua team should insist the fight is in the UK otherwise no fight.
Wilder has lots of flaws but he finds ways of winning and that's what counts. He looks horrible but won against someone who most people have in their top 5 HW ranking. So that's just the facts. If we like Wilder or not, if we like how terrible his technique is or not, he beat Ortiz.
Yeah this is true, as bad as he is, as often as he struggles and gets out boxed he is capable of turning fights around with that equalizer. Joshua has done so too in fights with Whyte and Wlad which makes this fight so interesting. Maybe Joshua walks right through him, but if he gets careless and Wilder lands then the fight turns on its head and then the question is can Wilder finish him before Joshua himself lands a bomb and turns the fight again his way.
