Despite winning his comeback bout at the weekend, Ricky Hatton is unlikely to see his wish of a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr next spring granted. Hatton beat Juan Lazcano on points at the City of Manchester Stadium at the weekend and is next due to box against Paulie Malignaggi in November, but he is likely to be told that he should forget about facing Mayweather again for the foreseeable future and instead look for smaller boxers to face.

Golden Boy, Hatton's promoter, is thought to believe he will need at least three victories to give a rematch with Mayweather, the WBC welterweight champion, credibility. Should Hatton beat Malignaggi, the IBF light-welterweight champion, in the United States, they are looking at a shortlist of three opponents, who would move up in weight to challenge Hatton.

Mayweather stopped Hatton, 29, in ten rounds in Las Vegas in December. In the meantime, Mayweather, an unbeaten five-weight world champion who is widely regarded as the world's best boxer, has another rematch on his mind, against Oscar De La Hoya in September. When they met last May, it was the richest bout of all time.

Katsidis fan would be really fun, but I'd kind of fear for Kat's life.

Katsidis? Wouldn't it make sense to move up to WW and win a title there? That would prepare him for the Mayweather fight. It would also give the fight more credibility.

The King of 140 wants to fight lightweights but to be honest the Pac match would exciting any who, Pacman would have a chance of the upset. Would be cool to see it in Phillipines too, that would be mad.

All three would be entertaining fights. Pac, Diaz and Katsidis all come to fight and fighting brawlers is when Ricky is at his best. Bring them on. Lets see what Hatton has left.

It would, but I'd assume they're factoring in that all four current holders would probably beat him.

How pathetic . . . why line him up to fight 135 pounders? Pac has not even fought at 135. :yep

Is that an admitance that Hatton is no longer a force at 140? :think

    :yep

In your last 25 posts, have you always managed to squeeze Pac's name in there somewhere?

In which case it's a bit of an insult that he says he isn't a welterweight, refuses to move up for fear of losing and then will fight Mayweather at Welter.

Hatton would be beating the #2 at the weight in Malignaggi.

Once he's done that there's not much talent left at 140, whereas there's a deep talent pool at 135.

Why should Hatton move up and fight much bigger guys at 147 when he can stay at 140 and have similarly sized guys move up and fight him there?

He really needs to be up against either Cotto or maybe Mosley if he harbours any Mayweather rematch, otherwise he should keep his mouth shut, at 140 i'd like to see him against the prospects, like Ortiz who is deffo in the mold of Hatton, would be an all out war. Maybe try and get Maidana out of Germany into England get a few fights on Sky and try hype him up some.

GBP is a business at the end of the day, they'll choose whatever sets the fight up to make the most money.

    That's probably Pacquaio in reality.

Because I always Post about Pac unless there's some other interesting boxers to talk about. If there's no Pac you'll find it lonely here in the ESB.

Hatton already tried 147, he found out he's no good for 147. He already admit he's too small for welter. Even Collazo beat him in my scorecaRD. Let him fight Pac.
