After postponing Povetkin fight, will the WBC allow Wilder another voluntary defense

I assume that team Wilder has sent a letter to the WBC asking that they shouldn't have to go through with the fight??

Which one, Rico? Stiverne or Duhaupas? Both ranked in the top four.

Should he be allowed to take a voluntary defense? Absolutely -- either that or make the Russian promoter pay him since he just lost a payday (after months of training and incurring expenses to prepare for a fight that hasn't happened and now may never happen, pending what the WBC finds in its investigation). He's not the one who cheated. He deserves the right to make a living and that doesn't change because his opponent failed a drug test.

Why should he have to sit out until either Povetkin tests clean repeatedly over a period of time and the WBC reinstates him, or a new eliminator takes place to establish a new mandatory? He's done absolutely nothing wrong and shouldn't have his career stalled because his opponent used a banned substance.

The "legit" rankings are the ratings of whatever organization you choose to represent.

If you're the WBC champ, the WBC ratings are legit. If you don't follow an organization's ratings, and don't get their permission to fight someone else, they'll remove you.

If you have more than one organization's belt, you have to jungle all their demands and ratings.

What a website or magazine says you should do will only get you stripped and result in smaller paychecks.

    That's the bottom line.

Hopefully the fight still happens at a later date. If it's at a much later date then yes Wilder should not have his career interrupted this was not his fault. However if Povetkin doesn't get suspended why not just reschedule it's a career high payday for Wilder. He won't make half of what he would of earned fighting anyone not named Wlad or Tyson

No issue from my perspective. If he wants to keep active, then he should be allowed to do so. It's not his fault.

If they get to meet later down the road, so be it.

The bottom line is this all organizations have guys rated in their top ten that are considered consensus top 10 opponents by websites and trade publications. Then they also have guys who are not- filler types- Molina, Duhaupas etc- the ones that Wilder has opted to face. Their is a reason someone like Wlad has over 20 such matches against Ring rated consensus top ten heavies and Bum Squad after 36 fights has 1.

Of course he will stay busy, and he should. This is not his fault.

Im guessing Povetkin has been drugging for a while. His body changed and power exploded at a very late age. Not proof, but telling.

He should be allowed fight whoever the hell he wants.

Povetkin has thrown the fight down the flusher. This moron knew he had a world title challenge coming up against an American and he still drank the sauce.

Povetkin is 100% to blame for Wilder being fully entitled to another bum fight.

They can't even begin to pick a later date until Povetkin (if I he's not suspended) passes a series of tests over time to prove it is completely out of his system.

Wilder shouldn't have to wait one day for this to happen before being able to move forward with defending his belt and making a living.

He's trained for 8-9 weeks for this. That's down the drain now, without a penny to show for it because the other guy failed a test.

He should now have to wait for a month or two of more tests, and then a rescheduled date in the summer and then another training camp for something that isn't his fault.

Hopefully his promotional team can put together a quick defense -- probably not against a top guy, but against a ranked opponent -- so as not to waste his entire training camp (which costs money that would have come out of a purse that is now not forthcoming). He doesn't, at this moment, have a mandatory challenger who is available, so he needs to at least get some sort of payday. And after that, if the WBC doesn't suspend Povetkin and he's tested clean, then maybe in the late summer or fall they can fight.

But then, though, I'd rather see Wilder schedule to fight the Fury-Klitschko rematch winner -- let Povetkin wait on the sidelines because it's his fault.

I would wait until WBC makes it's ruling. If the match can happen in June or July I would wait. It's a big purse. Why risk injury fighting again when 5 million could still be on the table. I know fighting soft fights is Wilder's MO. And so far he hastn gotten burned but I would wait to find out if Povetkin gets suspended first before making my next move. Nobody wants to see this guy fight more no names anymore. It's embarassing.
Wlad/Tyson is in July I don't think a Wilder fight is a possibility until 2017 at earliest. Wilder Joshua should happen first. This way even though the real champ would be tyson Wlad winner at least Joshua/Wilder will have 2 belts too

This sucks. This fight would've been one of the best HW matchups of the last half decade.

ANyway I don't blame WIlder for fighting someone else at this point. Hopefully it's a live body and not some no name tomato can. Deontay is at a point in his career where he should only be fighting the best fighters in his weight division.

Maybe a fight between him and Haye? I'd tune into that one.
