After Rewatching the Abner Mares Fight On MY HDDVR I have new thoughts....

What's the effect of numerous low blows not being warned or penalized?
- it ruined the fight
- it gives the low blower more courage to throw more low blows
- the victim gets discouraged
- it sapped the energy of the victim

GBP, the ref and Mares are the culprits.

 

I agree, I also agree that its okay to support your own culture but at the same time boxing is a culture as a whole, Mares lost that fight IMO....

Right, Agbeko kept having to keep his left glove over his balls when ever Mares threw, to block good body shots........

I rewatched it w/o the volume on, and I didn't see too many lowblows, and the ones I saw were borderline except for about 4-5. 2 of which came during a moment where Agbeko was holding Mares head down.

Also rewatching w/o the sound on I changed my scoring to favor Mares in one of the tight rounds that I had previosly given to Agbeko because the commentators biased me to thinking Ag took the round.

 

About 2-3 punches hit the leg and a couple in the crotch. The rest were above the belt. Mares should have lost one point and still won the fight!

 

Most people and most of the posters here cannot score a fight correctly for themselves. They are swayed by what the announcers are saying and it sticks with them mentally, whether the announcers are right or wrong. Last night was a perfect example.

You saw when they cried low blow and then looked at the replay on 2 specific occasions out of about 5 where the shot was clearly a legal blow and they were screaming that it was low and after review realized it was cleanly on the belt line.

I stated this last night in the round by round but the ESB community are sheepa nd only listen to what the announcers are saying. Yes there were clear low blows, no there wasnt as many as people or the announcers were crying about. The punch stats told the story. Agbeko didnt throw half enough jabs that he needed to, he is also a terrible combination puncher.

The rd 11 knockdown was bollocks. The first KD was legit, he was hit with a punch while off balance.

Is that your score with the 11th round knockdown included? Because if so, and if Mora had properly penalized Mares that round, your score would be a draw.

Same guy who let unconscious Fernando Montiel risk his health by letting him continue to fight.

Montiel's a great fighter who I have a lot of respect for, that shouldn't have happened either.

Even had we deducted a point, even 2 for low blows, we would have to deduct a point from Agb for holding Mares head down so much.

The announcers said nothing about that, clearly favoring Agbeko. Yeah, I admit I was pulling for Mares but my hypocrisy goes only so far.
I still had Mares ahead by 2 points, taking the KD away, penalizing him 2 points, and penalizing Agb 1 point for illegal holding.

The problem with making the argument that Showtime was exaggerating the low blows, is that the one time Mora needed to make the correct call-he didn't.

He was in perfect position for the second knockdown call (which was a blatant low blow) and not only did Agbeko not get 5 minutes to recover, the knockdown counted against him. It was an obvious low blow.

So, even if there were only a handful of legit low blows (I believe there were more, but I'll agree for the sake of the argument), missing that call changed the entire fight.

It was a 3 point swing as it was, at minimum. Had he been penalized a point, which would've been justified, it's a 4 point swing. That's a huge call in determining the outcome of the fight.

 

Agbeko's holding was nowhere near worthy of being penalized. Trying to equate Mares' constant lowblowing with anything Agbeko did is asinine. Hell in the sixth and seventh, Mares was holding Agbeko's head down on multiple occasions, yet somehow Mora decides once again that Agbeko was at fault ("keep your head up").

 

Mares is dirty **** him!
