When Roy Jones scored that big guaranteed deal with HBO, it was quite clear that after a couple years HBO was tired of paying him those big checks with the lack of competition. The problem was that Roy was much better then anyone else at the time and aside from maybe one fight at LHW that could have been made, he took on and beat just about everyone their was around. Now Showtime has signed Mayweather, at the end of his career, to a big deal and might get similar results. Without the potential of a Pacquiao fight on the horizon and the fact that there are no big name WWs right now and no guarantee will fight anymore big names at 154lbs, it looks like Showtime might have messed up. The PPV numbers don't sound good right. Mayweather doesn't have as crowd pleasing a style as other fighters, and doesn't have a potential threat out their right now. I figured after Roy Jones, networks would be more caution of signing fighters like this and thinking they will make their money back.
