After seeing Pac-Hatton and Pac-Cotto, is it possible that Oscar wasn't so shot?

    I'm playing devil's advocate here.

Oscar was favoured to beat Pac. Pac annihilated him. Therefore, it seemed logical that Oscar was shot. Fair enough.

But then Pac demolished Hatton and Cotto with relative ease. Both men had proven in their previous fights (Malignaggi & Clottey) that they were far from shot.

Is it possible we all (including Oscar himself) overstated how far gone he was/is?

Watching Oscar vs Forbes then Oscar vs Pac, there doesn't seem to have been much of a decline, if any. Oscar fought the same way in both fights, but against Pacquiao he was facing a vastly superior fighter to Forbes, whose speed and workrate punched the fight out of Oscar, and left him a broken shell by round 7.

Was Oscar weight-drained? Yes, he probably was. Again, this has probably been overstated too, considering he weighed in only 3lbs less than against Forbes.

And only 18 months previously he had taken a prime Floyd Mayweather to an SD.

It could be the case that Oscar was shot to **** and weight-drained to point of death. Or it could be the case that everyone thought Oscar was shot to **** and weight-drained to point of death because he was destroyed so easily by a fighter who then went on to destroy two more world-class fighters around the same weight region.

    Thoughts?

It is also possible that MAB, Morales and JMM weren't all that shot after all..

    Definitely.

He could probably still fight at a pretty high level if he wanted too.

I say he fights Julie Caesar Chavez Jr for a pretty big PPV event in May. :good

    Prime for Prime

    Oscar is here

    Cotto and Hatton are here.

I've stood by this stance on DLH. People were so quick to say he was shot partly due to Roach's comments, but with Roach he' ALWAYS says negitives about PAC's opponents. Mental warfare and it works well it seems. But DLH was still very good...not his BEST but just as good as he was when DLH took Floyd 12 hard, tatical and competitive rounds a year prior.

I agree with that! a PRIME DLH at 147 is a PROBLEM. Even for a fighter like Manny or Floyd.

that style matchup is hell for Oscar.

He was shot and draned which is why he lost every second of every round. If he wasn't shot and drained he would've fared better but still lost the fight.

Oscar's been shot since he fought Felix Sturm.

Also, Pacquiao is alot stronger at the weight today than he was when he fought Oscar. Pac was basically a big lightweight against Oscar. He could surely have weighed in at 135 if he wanted to.

The Pac that fought Cotto is better at WW than the Pac that fought Oscar.

More like Playing with yourself while watching a Pac video. ;)

Oscar was favored against Pac, because no one other than those closest to DLH knew how much he had deteriorated. Do you NOT find it interesting that Roach agreed to fight DLJH at 147, but would not do the same with Cotto and Mosley???

Roach himself, who trained Oscar said he didn't have it in him anymore. In other words he was shot. That is wat Roach saw.

Malignaggi is really not a very good fighter. He's a B level fighter who has NEVER had an impressive win over a world class fighter. Hell, his two best wins were Gifts against other B level fighters, actually Lovemore is now a C level fighter

And the Clottey fight proved that Cotto had defitnately lost a step, he was not the same fighter he once was by any means, yes he won, but it was close, arguably controversial, and not very impressive, hell, Margarito looked better against Clottey. Cotto got a severe beating, was beaten to a pulp, beaten to submission by Margarito, not too many fighters can endure a long beating like that and be the same anyway.

A boxer is the last to know when it's time to hang them up. Everyone knows that.

Rumors have it that Victor Ortiz kicked his ass in sparring. Think about that.

Watching DLH-Forbes and DLH-Mayweather, I could see Oscar had slowed down even by then. Oscar did what he had to against Forbes, but he had no killer instinct. He had obviously slowed down by the time he got to forbes. Forbes was tagging Oscar a lot.

Oscar didn't even fight against Pac. He had IV marks on his arm for crying out loud! He weighed 145 at the weighing amd came in at 147 for the fight!!!!!! 147!!!! Oscar was coming in at 157+ when he was at WW!!!!!! more than 10 years ago!!!! Of course he was Weight drained to **** FFS!!!

I would say that the Mayweather fight was Oscar's last hurrah like many fighters have had.

    Like Whitaker had against Oscar.
    Morales had against Pac.
    Leonard had against Hagler etc...

But putting everything into perspective NOW, of course Oscar was a shell of what he once was even against Mayweather.

No doubt Pac is a great fighter.

But really? Comparing hatton and Cotto to a Prime Oscar is ridiculous. Oscar was weight drained...that is almost an undisputable Fact. Oscar was a part time boxer, who had seen his best days more than 5 years before he fought Pac.

So anyway you put it, Pac never beat a prime Oscar.

How about Oscar's struggle with Steve Forbes, a guy he would have KOed in his prime.

Or about Roach admitting he saw IV needle marks on DLH's arms, a sign of extreme weight draining.

Oscar didn't really struggle with Steve Forbes. He was nowhere close to losing that fight.

And BTW some people thought Forbes would beat Pacquiao because Pacquiao was too small.

Forbes is a great defensive fighter. He's hard to hit flush. Just as Berto.

And "weight drained" and "shot" are two different things. I think DLH was definitely weight drained but not nearly as shot as he looked.

Absolutely, it was just an excuse from DLH and FANS or HATERS not giving what is due to FIGHTER that deserves the RESPECT. :hat
