    Hi all,
just wanted some advice really on how you guys feel after sparring. I did 6 rounds today and i havnt sparred for ages and last time i did i was a raw beginner! I did really well today even if i do say so myself, my fitness was good so i did more rounds than guys that have been going alot longer and i was praised by the trainers ect ect. So obviously loved it and even now i can wait till next time. However i must admit i have felt crap all day i finished at 11 and iv felt like iv had the hangover from hell! Headache and at one point this arvo felt a bit sick!
Obviously need more sparring experience and probably got hit more than i will say 5 sessions from now but just wondering how you guys feel after sparring does it get better? Im not really bothered the way i see it all my non boxer mates felt exactly the same today cos they were all on the **** last night haha. Just your thoughts if you can spare em cheers :good
Probably should say this is the first time iv had a proper sparring session in with very experience guys one guy was a thai boxer but hes had loads of competitions ect and that probably where i picked up the most punishment as i was already nackered!
Btw iv got my first fight in 4 weeks! So wil be sparring alot! Its white collar boxing just for charity where il be matched with another novice probably from my own club. I cant wait even though i am bricking it a bit haha:D

When I do well, I feel amazing. Especially when I pull of something new/unexpected. I pulled of a Benitez/Hope KO punch(sans the KO) on a cruiserweight. Feint to body, BOOM looping right. fun stuff like that makes me love boxing. I think you improve the fastest by sparring. Its real time experience more than theory and muscle memory. Once you learn what you can and cannot do in the ring, you then have a great idea of what to work on while training.

But physically i had a headache from hell and at one point later in the day felt quite sick tho i didnt throw up. Maybe i took too many punches.:!:

The head ache may be from taking punches. I've experienced that before. Usually its from eating too many punches, yeah.

I never felt sick though. Did you eat good? Are you used to exerting yourself in the way that boxing requires you too.

yeh i thought, more experience will hopefully mean improvement and getting hit less. I dont think it was over exertion without sounding too arrogant im extremely fit. Easily the fittest in the gym just need the actual sparring experience. That did sound arrogant

had a bowl of cereal and a banna before and after i had wraps with tuna, lettuce and tomato on. And later on i had one cold beer haha which probably didnt help but i was already feeling crap before that then thought i felt a bit better so had that. I think the sickness may have been due to that. But i eat well and had **** loads of water to drink so cant blame it on dehydration

Well...getting hit it the head repeatedly is naturally going to cause a heacache at some point :yep. I had one for the rest of the day and my head still felt weird for a few days after. I was worried about this at first but it went away. I don't know about the sick part. Thats never a good sign.

IDK, maybe eat more after wards? Doesn't sound like you took in many calories after wards. Boxing is a lot more strenuous than running.

i had plenty of cals so no worries there! 3 wraps 2 tins of tuna 1 whole mini lettuce and 3 tomatos should cover it lol looking back on it i just caught too many punches in the last round and its the first time iv sparred for a long time so i guess thatll be the reason.

I feel similar, except for feeling sick. I usually get a slight headache after sparring. (And found out I "popped" something...)

Feeling sick may be due to your blood sugar/body shot or maybe a shot around the ear/temple. I guess you could tell by if it is full on "ate something off" nausea or "reading in the car" queasy.

    Good luck.

Why were you going 6 rounds of sparring? That is a lot for an amateur, even when preparing for a tournament. If you haven't been sparring lately, the headache is most likely an accumulation of punches bounced off your dome. The nausea is also a likely side effect which usually means slight concussion. You should not be sparring for a while and personally I wouldn't suggest running either as the pounding also jars the brain. You can do the rest of your drills and soon you will feel better. In the mean time, practice every defensive move you can and work your jab until it feels like your arm will fall off. Once you decide you are good to go as far as sparring, don't go to five or six rounds. Take two or three light rounds for a few sessions. Most of the damage done to fighters is the cummulative effect of the endless rounds of sparring they must do to prepare for one single fight. There are times when it is necessary to go for it in sparring to see where you are in relation to the upcoming bout but doing this on a regular basis in the gym will definitely shorten your career, especially if you take a lot of shots.
