As most know, a common perception when Floyd Mayweather, Jr. "retired" after facing Ricky Hatton in 2007 was that Floyd wanted to avoid three men: Antonio Margarito, Paul Williams and Miguel Cotto. With Paul Williams being dramatically KO'd by Sergio Martinez, and with Williams now having his won-but-really-lost performance against Erislandy Lara, do you think Floyd Mayweather could now decide to fight Paul Williams in the future if Williams wins the kind of fight (a "rehabilitation" fight) that Mosley did against Margarito or Ortiz did against Berto? That is, do you think Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is no longer afraid of Paul Williams (if he ever was afraid of him, as some people speculate) after two lackluster Williams performances against Martinez and Lara? Poll above and leave your thoughts below. :bbb:good
I think the question should be will Manny fight Williams ? When you look at the last three fights that both men had... Just look at it!!
I think Pac would probably fight Williams, though I'm not sure. The reason I asked was because many felt Mayweather has been ducking Williams for several years, whereas Pacquiao is only more recently a full-blown (or close) welterweight. For example, a lot of people felt Mayweather dodged Margarito. Pacquiao has already fought him.
The reason why Floyd would care is because -- like with Shane Mosley before they fought -- people have been saying for years that Mayweather was ducking Williams. Now, as with Shane Mosley as he aged, it could be a good time for Mayweather to try to match up with Williams. It's just a question, and you are free to make another thread. :thumbsup
That's why I said that Williams would need a "rehabilitation" fight, as Mosley had vs Margarito and Ortiz had versus Berto. Both of those guys had damaged reps before the fights I just mentioned. But after they got a win that supposedly took their poor performances away, Floyd fought them. For Williams, he didn't even "lose" tonight, so it's possible that he could be sold as a good opponent even without a "rehab" fight.
