The guy is receiving alot of hype...and most is probably undeserved. However, with the hype he was getting on the internet along with his personal story and fighting style..he is exactly what MMA needs. People need to understand though that it is going to take a while for him to adjust and hone his technique if he is going to be able to deal with world class MMA fighters. You just can't throw him in there with one of the best yet. Working with Bas Rutten is a big PLUS for sure, and within a couple of years we should see just how good Slice is or can be. Thompson is a perfect opponent for Slice and I don't see much danger of him losing that one.. So, who do you think would be a reasonable opponent for Kimbo next?
What he needs is someone with average/good ground game to see if he actually can fight off his feet. Maybe a wrestler like Brandon Hincklle or Dan Severn, someone who should not be a big threat but a credible opponent
The facts remain Kimbo is what he is.Which is a crude slugger. His not going to suddnely develop some magical ground game or even refine his striking to be that much better than what it is. The fact that his fighting an experienced vet like Thompson considering his size and experience in comparison to Kimbo speaks alot about Kimbo`s own natural talent aswell as Thompsons lack thereof. A case can soundly be made for both. You can be certain Gary Shaw will milk Kimbo until the wheels fall off. I doubt Kimbo even cares if his taken seriously as he knows that at heavyweight the likelyhood of him even beating a an aged veteran like Dan Severn is slim. My opinion is a simple one.. lets just enjoy the Kimbo ride while it lasts.
I think the guy who recently knocked Kimbo's soon to be opponent, Thompson, out would be perfect. I believe he is around 8-0, and his name is " the Grim" Rogers, or something like that.
How about Kimbo vs Brock Lesnar in a inter-promotion bout. Battle of the new prospects. I know the chances of it happening are slim to none (if that) because of Dana White but it could be interesting.
Echoing the same thought as a few others, Rogers should be the likely opponent. But knowing Gary Shaw, he'll find another burned out vet or glass jarred brawler for Kimbo to cut down. Nothing against Kevin Ferguson pesonally, having a Youtube streetfighter lead the way for MMA on national, prime time TV makes my stomach churn.
