yeah - but thats why i think he will prove successful, and actually has a style suited to the paid ranks
For Mitchell to become a really big draw he'd have to do it the hard way, win a world title, defend it a few times and try to get the public behind him through familarity. I'm not sure he's up to having an extended reign at the top?
Staying in the ams wont help him one bit. He doesnt have the style to be a consistent nor effective pro. The gold that he won is very flattering purely because amatuer boxing has no reflection whatsoever on the pro ranks thanks to the IOC. If Degale turns pro he nees to do it the hard way and work his way up from the bottom of the rung on small hall shows and really show the hunger to improve and ply his trade. Thats unlikely though as he`ll be handed a nice sum to turn pro and be top billing like the Olympic flops before him Khan and Harrison.
Maybe, I have always found him good to watch but don't feel he has that endearing personality to become a massive draw. You either need that or to be invincible like Lennox Lewis Mitchell probably ain't world class, but I would rather him have a go and fail rather than hide away on undercards or get a padded record.
He needs to remain out of the public eye. It does boxers no favor at all when there house hold names before there even established pro`s. Lennox was a relative unknown and fought on a ton of small hall shows. He worked his way up the ranks and eventually moved over to the US when he big came a true household name. Khan and Harrison already had it made.
Its been a dark year for Mr Warren indeed. His best fighter Calzaghe leaving him for his final payday. Enzo being outclassed and knocked out by Haye And his ca$h cow for the future Amir Khan being exposed once and for all in brutal fashion. He has no future at world level.
I think it is too early to say, Degale looks to be a good prospect but not sure exactly how good yet. I hope the kid stays in the amateurs until after the 2012 olympics.
