Dont get me wrong, Im a HUGE GGG fan. Been on board since IB first brought him to our attention and will be even if he gets faceplanted one day by the next SRR.

Point of the thread though is that seems like both p4p fighters got gift stoppages, and Gonzales was even somewhat bailed out.

Yes, both GGG and Gonzales have amazing power and excellent control of distance and both mix up their shots so well that it's sometimes even difficult for the referee to tell which are banging buzzing shots and which are spacers, even landed feigns and set up punches.

But....just b/c Gonzales has a history of KOing ppl, as does GGG, it doesnt necessarily mean that their opponents should be halted when their chances of winning seem gone.

I completely understand that no one wants another Mago ordeal on their hands.

But I look back at the first GG Carl Froch fight and think......Groves was ahead on my card 4-3 and had the ref given Groves an 8 count, Carl woulda took a slight lead in that fight.
Carl was bailed out in there IMO.

Gonzales was hurt badly downstairs last night, and the second he put Viloria on the backfoot and buzzed him, the ref jumped in.

Now, Lemiuex had less success I know, but the whole stopping a fight b/c what MIGHT happen........

Getting a little old, especially in these huge fights.

After that last left to the body, Lemiuex looked at the ref with that "get me out of here" expression. He was already really beaten up. The doctors had been called in between the last couple rounds. The ref has a millisecond to react. When a beaten boxer is looking to ref after getting nailed, there is really only one response.

Did you also notice Lemieux didn't complain about the stoppage. He seemed relieved it was over. The ref may have saved his career. Takiing a sustained beating can sometimes ruin a fighter (meldrick Taylor).
