Against The Grain - Your Dream Fight Opinions

    Pretty simple concept.

    What fighters do you feel would go against the general consenus and win in proposed dream fights?

    How would the proposed underdog win the fight? Would it be easier then most would imagine?

    One of mine is Andrew Golota vs Vitali Klitschko. I honestly feel like Golota could win the fight a pretty solid majority of the time, if he's in his prime and keeps it together, of course.

    Golota was a 240 super heavyweight himself, with incredible amounts of skill. So size would not be an issue.

    Vitali wasn't the explosive, fast starting type that could blow Golota out and make him unravel mentally. Golota showed that he had the tools and assets to demolish fighters far bigger then himself in Micheal Grant (Who's larger then Vitali) and, McBride and Corey Sanders. And Golota's jab? Talk about a controlling jab.

    Also, Golota wouldn't be any more prone to an injury (Busted ear drum against Tyson, nearly broken arm against Austin) then Vitali would be in there. And seeing the horrific damage that Golota inflicted on fighters like Sanders (One of the worst cuts ever) and Vitali's fairly soft skin might be in trouble.

    Thoughts, and your own opinions on other fights that you see going differently then the norm does?

    I think that if Ezzard Charles were to fight Larry Holmes, most would make Charles the underdog, but I'd be inclined to pick him.

    Michael Nunn vs Bernard Hopkins

    Not sure if this is a controversial opinion, but I think Nunn outworks any version of Hopkins to a points victory. This would probably be a case of Hopkins landing cleaner shots when opening up, but there wouldn't be enough of it sustained. He'd also probably be reaching a lot of his shots with Nunn being a pretty huge Middleweight, who threw punches in bunches and could also take a pretty good shot. Nunn on points.

    Thats a great style matchup for charles...except the jab. charles had trouble with Tall Jabbers(see Louis and Valdez fights for example)


    I think Walcott vs Ali is a toss up personally...Walcott has a style to give ali huge fits

    Surely that is given; I would be amazed if Lil Floyd survived the first round. Floyd is undoubted more athletic, thus I take him to vault over the top rope and head back to the dressing room sometime in the first three minutes of their bout. I guess, he would not want to ruin that pretty little face of his against Zivic.

    Hardly a dream fight, but over 10 rounds, I take Bomber Bruno to outpoint Big Daddy Bowe.

    Bowe even at his best took rounds off, just sticking the left out an edging the odd round, a tactic that See's Big Frank win the first half dozen rounds as he dominates with his jab.

    Bowe ups it later, but Bomber Bruno is so far ahead and able to save a little in the bank (like he did against Bugner), that stamina is less of an issue. And although Bruno has the odd dodgy moment late, he wins the close decision (6-4).

    I think Kalule could beat Griffith and Benvenuti at middleweight.

    I agree...Walcott had the footwork, hand speed but power in both hands a tricky with both hands and pinpoint power

    Well, the fights don't have to be classics or anything. Just upsets you'd predict.

    Bowe's head movement was abysmal. I really can't think of a fight where he was too terribly hard to hit.

    Golota had nailing him with 1-2's down to a tee, and Bruno had a unbelievably long and stiff jab with a crushing right hand behind it.

    Hmm.

    I think Kenny Lane defeats Floyd Mayweather at 140 pounds.

    Well, I can't say that... all I can say is that I wouldn't be surprised AT ALL if he did.

    I think Kalambay beats an 04-05 Hopkins...Absolute stylistic nightmare for Nard.

    Tommy Hearns holds out Leonard in a 10 rounder in 78-79..which sounded like it was a fight that was a chance of coming off at the time.

    Mike McCallum edges out Griffith.
