I can only come to two conclusions about Mora:

    1) He was in on a fix.
    2) He's utterly incompetent.

Neither choices make Mora look good. Pathetic display by Mora.

No racism involved, just playing to the demographic. GBP cares about two things: putting asses in seats and selling PPVs. The fans at home watching on HBO or Showtime do not matter because we're starved and will watch their fixed garbage praying for karma to catch up with GBP anyway. It's Mexican asses in the seats and Mexicans buying the PPVs, so they're going to rig their fights in their fighter's favor if he's up against an African, a white guy or a black guy from Compton. GBP has black fighters too, and when they can sell PPVs (or will be able to someday) and fill up venues in their hometowns, the fix is in for them all the same.

Mares threw alot of low blows, half were because akbeko pulled his head down. Akbeko threw alot of punches behind the head. Without the two bogus knockdowns mares still won the fight by atleast 8-4.

Indeed. It was a great fight bar the horrible refereeing. Bad for Mares for the tainted win and Agbeko for having to fight two persons in the ring.

i'm angry about that fight, but as much as I hate to say it i can see why Mora acted that way.

I was flipping out in the Katsidis fight. I'm sure afterwards Mora was talked to about the call, and it had to be on his mind in this fight. I do think a lot of overreacting was going on by the announcers. Yes there were a million low blows, but they strated going off on every shot that even touched the beltline, even when Agbeko had Mares in a headlock.

In the opening rounds I remember telling the other folks with me something like "Tough job for that ref with Mares going to the body like that. Lots of those shots are right on the belt which is a gray area."

Mora was probably trying to be more liberal in allowing borderline body punches (due to the last fight), but by the time that it became apparent that the low blows were becoming a pattern and a problem the ref was already in a hole because he had been calling the shots legal earlier.

That said, he warned Mares to keep them up at least a hundred times. At some point (preferably before the 10th round) you've got to lay down the law, give an official warning or two, and tell the fighter it's about to be a problem and a point.

    Blown calls:
1st rd knockdown (Agbeko loses 1 point)
A **** ton of low blows
Not giving Agbeko 5 minutes to recover and not deducting a point the first time he went down from a low blow. (Mares saves 1 point.)
Not giving Agbeko 5 minutes and not deducting a point the second time he went down from a low blow, and then calling it a knockdown. (Agbeko loses 2 points, Mares saves 2 points.)
    Giving Jim Gray an interview.

It's easy to see that if the fight was officiated properly it would have been a different outcome, most likely a draw or win for Agbeko. However, it's also easy to speculate that Mares would have turned it up and fought differently had the ref done his job. So it isn't fair to Mares to say Agbeko would have won, because the fight would have been totally different. immediate rematch is the only possible outcome here. There's just no other way to make it right and make Mares legit.

    PS
I hate pulling the race card, and I'm white...but I know it had to be going through Agbeko's head. Partisan Hispanic crowd, Hispanic opponent, Hispanic ref, blatant miscalls, targetting Agbeko for Mares' fouls, etc. He had to be thinking it. I'd like to think it's not true, but hey.
