Age Boxers Started training.............

I was 7 when I started and had my first little bout soon after and will always remember the gloves being up over my elbows

 

didnt tarver start or have his first pro fight at about 27

 

He had a long amateur career which culminated in a bronze in Atlanta in '96...not exactly the same as others who have started old!

He did have a break for a few years before rededicating himself but he started when he was a kid and fought Roy Jones as teenagers.

martin rogan started at 28 or 29 then turned pro at 33 or 34

 

yeh he only started up again at 24. he was pretty much a bum and saw roy jones winning world titles and decided to start again.

 

I'm sure I remember reading/seeing something where Freddie Roach said he generally preferred training with boxers who hadnt started boxing until they were around 15. From memory, he said people who start boxing earlier fall into bad habits and, particularly those who start boxing young, dont know what it feels like to get hit by a man.

Obviously there are exceptions, and generally I'd think it would be better to start younger, but you can see where he's coming from.
