Brook wasn't much smaller. Brook was actually bigger than Golovkin every time they did those weigh ins. Kell Brook drains himself to **** to make WW and has fought at 154 (or was it something weird like 152?) before. It isn't like Golovkin is a giant MW. He's 5'10.
Lol how is Brook not a small middleweight/beefed up welter?! 30 day weigh in means nothing, except that he clearly likes his food. The reason Golovkin didn't look like he did against Lemieux against Brook is that Brook can actually fight a bit. Lemieux is a one dimensional puncher with little skill, if GGG could keep Brook at the end of his jab like that he would have.
That means nothing. Do you think Golovkin could get down to anywhere near WW? He'd be a corpse. Wouldn't even agree to a 158 catchweight against Brook. Brook is the much smaller man, not sure why some people seem to be in denial over this. 5'10 is not small for a MW at all, anyway size is nothing to do with height. Tyson was 5'10. Golovkin has to work hard to make 160, like most other fighters he fights at the lowest weight he is comfortable at.
Can't understand your absolute reluctance to enjoy the great middleweight that GGG is. The guy is 36 from 36 and 33 of those by stoppage, and you are wasting your time desperately, desperately trying to find a chink in his armor. Enjoy boxing for its champions, or find yourself another sport that causes you less frustration and has you less inclined to waste your time desperately trying to detract from champions.
Eh, strongly disagree. Lemieux isn't a bad boxer. Seems like a solid B level to me. Powerful, fast, and durable. Golovkin kept him at the end of his punishing jab like that to take Lemieux's strengths away from him and also to tire Lem out since that was one of his problems in the past (doesn't seem to be the case now). Vs Brook he fought differently because he didn't have to be as cautious.
Because when they were next to each other the size difference wasn't that great and whenever they did a weigh in Brook was bigger. It isn't like Brook looked like a man that didn't belong in that weight class. I think his best weight would be 154 and not 160, but if he did decide to fight at 160 I think he would be a threat. Bigger size differences occur in boxing all of the time within weightclasses and no one says anything at all. He doesn't seem to have to work hard to make 160. His fight night weight puts him at about 168 usually so he isn't rehydrating that much. There haven't been any stories that I know of where it talks about the struggle of making 160. He's never missed weight before. Golovkin seems like an average sized MW. He's usually smaller than his opponents unless they are coming up in weight.
He fought differently against Brook because of styles. There's no way GGG could have kept Brook at bay with the jab like he did Lemieux because Brook doesn't just plod forward with zero head movement or defense trying to land a big right hand. He stayed at range looking to box and counter which made Golovkin come forward.
It amounts to the same thing though. He fought differently because they posed different problems. Not even problems really since Lem didn't win a single round and while Brook did win one round he didn't last as long.
He won 2 rounds clear and if it wasn't for the eye, who knows, GGG was blowing pretty hard by the 5th. He did far, far better than Lemieux who was completely useless.
It's pretty hard to argue 2 rounds, but whatever. Even if you think Golovkin was getting tired in the 5th there wasn't any way Brook would have been able to hold up. Also, it's weird to say things like "if it wasn't for the eye" since that damage was the direct result of Golovkin punching him. It amounts to "If Golovkin wasn't as strong as he is..." which is pointless. Even if orbital bone didn't break his body still would have failed him. He got knocked down in the third round which was called a slip even though it wasn't, was getting brutalized in the 5th. That fight was only going one way. Even still though, my main point is that it isn't like Brook is some tiny munchkin stick of a man compared to Golovkin.
I enjoy watching Golovkin fight, not sure where I said otherwise. I'm sorry if discussing his vulnerabilities upsets you.
He did look tired in the brook fight round four I tghink he goes back to his corner takes a massive e breath his body language was like fhooking hell never really seen him look like that before But the next round dispatched him with ease
You mean when he takes those really deep breaths in the corner? He always does that no matter what round it is. Actually I've noticed that a lot of the eastern europeans with a deep amateur background do that so I think that it is something that they are taught to do there. Makes sense, get as much oxygen as you can to give you a little boost later.
