I'm only making this thread which I think is obvious because another poster made one that said his age wasn't.

Hopkins style, (at this point in his career), involves him being on his legs for the entire match. You won't see Hopkins in a stationary position for any more than a few seconds.

The man is the master at angles and considering Calzaghe's style involved a pressure fighting, volume punching based attack, Bernard had to be on the move in order to bait Calzaghe into his right hand.

If Bernard were 5 years younger he would not have been so gassed in the late rounds and I don't know whether he would have won or not, I'm not debating that, but he certainly would have put on a better performance.

So yes, age was a factor. He has 43 year old legs.

I don't give a **** who you think would have won, and ever since I saw Calzaghe dominate Kessler I knew he was the real deal and I give him all the credit in the world for his performance against B-Hop, but if you don't think Bernard's age was a factor, you definitely need to go slap yourself.

Anyone that doesn't see it hasn't aged yet. Some things you simply can't overcome with any amount of heart. Medical fact. Metabolism just isn't the same. My son showed me an article but I think it said if I worked out I could get some percentage back, but no where near 100%.

I think age was a factor on both mans performances. IMO Calzaghe is just past his prime. But obviously age was a much LARGER factor in Hopkins case lol. The fight would have been such an intense fight if they were both in their ****ing 20's when they fought... Could you imagine?

    Agree with thread title.

The fact that this has to be pointed out shows what kind of braindead nuthuggers we have to deal with sometimes. :deal

It's obviously to anyone with common sense that age played a factor.

That being said, Calzaghe is no spring chicken either.

    You got that right.

When I looked at that other thread about Hops age not being a factor I figured it was some sort of joke.

But the guy was serious! :-(

These threads are so stupid! Everyone missed a perfectly good one about the smaller weight classes and about a fight between Montiel and Mijares, they'd rather talk about crap like this!

Definitely age was a factor. Hopkins had gone back more than Joe, Calzaghe still has amazing workrate and will to win. Hopkins was still able to floor Joe though. Prime Hopkins seemed stronger than Calzaghe and would win a decision imo and I quite like Joe.

For me, age was not a factor, and here's why.

I realize that, at age 43, Hopkins isn't what he once was physically. I knew that going into the bout.

Even at 43, I thought Hopkins was good enough to tame Calzaghe. Joe proved better than I thought, even though I technically did have Hopkins winning by a point on my card.

Point being, Hopkins didn't get "old overnight".

If Bernard were 5 years younger he would also be 5 years less experienced!!!
