When posters use the words "glass jaw," reading between the lines, it's to denigrate a fighter's resolve, not the density of his chin.

Aside from those blessed with THICK skulls, a good shot on the chin, or a combination -- no matter how hard a fighter trains -- will drop or flatten him.

When most people use the phrase they're just being stupid in my opinion. Very few fighters apart from journeymen make it to even the regional level, let alone the world level with a genuine glass chin. Litzau might have one, got knocked again last night. Honestly? I regard most applications of the term on here as trolling.

But didn't Litzau get hit with terrific flush shots, S? How many 130-pounders would stand-up to those?

He got hit alright...But were they flush? I saw him trying to roll with them a lot and honestly to me it looked like a lot of them slid right off. I'll rewatch though...

Broner landed a very flush hard shot right on the tip of his chin. It was about as perfect of a shot as you could throw, right on the tip of the chin.

He did roll with some, but the ones that got through were wicked. Broner's walkaway left hook while Litzau was falling (Like Marciano's when he KO'd Walcott the first time) was icing on the cake.

Litzau walked right through everything Caballero threw at him. Broner just hit him with some perfect shots.

I agree that chins are bull****. You get hit right and you go to sleep. Some guys are more ready mentally to take shots than other guys but theres nothing magical about them.

I think chins are not bull****. Some fighters are born with better chins than others. Genetics, neck size, mentality, all play a role in how well your chin can stand up to a punch.

Mike Tyson had one of the best chins I have ever seen and I think that came from having a tremendous heart and mental attitude, along with the thickest neck I have ever seen on a man in a ring.

Yeah you're best not listening to all that about glass jaws JG, there's guys on here that spend more time degrading fighters than actually enjoying boxing.

I honestly have no interest in whether a fighter has a glass jaw or not, obviously some fighters are blessed with thick skulls/ strong jaws but as you said....some shots would put any fighter down.

It has nothing to do with 'genetics' so you are saying that if you take two men of the same size and they each take an identical blow on the chin they will both either go down or stay up?

A good chin is like anything else in the sport - and I would say genetics play a role in about every aspect of a fighter.

Jason got hit with some excellent shots the 1st one was real strong then the uppercut was full force l with a few in between. JL is a slow starter but he started well in this fight just got caught, no shame in that...those punches would have taken anyone out the were quick and precise

I can only speak for myself. I hardly use the term "glass jaw". However I do use the word "chin" to describe my opinion of a boxer's abillitiy to take a punch or punches throughout a fight. Is it ment to denigrate the boxer? No, however some boxers are able to take punches better than others.

In boxing, there are glass jaws, soft mid sections, poorly conditioned fighters in the cardiovascular sense, and fragile psyche's. Its not always a glass jaw that causes the loss.

Conversely a prideful / strong willed person with a high pain threshold in my opinion can help overcome one of the above flaws I mentioned.

:dealit's fair and accurate. it's an attribute like any other

not using chin would be like not using speed, or power, or skill...

there are no pure scientific, objective measures for most aspects of boxing but through analysis you can judge them with some degree of accuracy
