AI Picks Nat Fleischer's Likely Top Ten Heavyweights (2025)

    AI Overview

It's impossible to definitively know what Fleischer's top 10 would look like in 2025, as he passed away in 1972 and his views on boxing styles and contenders might have evolved. However, based on his known preferences and the boxers who have achieved greatness in the decades since he compiled his lists, a likely top 10 might include:
    1. Jack Johnson
    2. Joe Louis
    3. James J. Jeffries
    4. Jack Dempsey
    5. Muhammad Ali
    6. Sam Langford
    7. Rocky Marciano
    8. Jim Corbett
    9. Sonny Liston
    10. George Foreman
    Explanation of Potential Choices:
    • Johnson, Louis, Jeffries, Dempsey, and Ali:

These would likely remain high on Fleischer's list due to their historical significance, achievements, and stylistic impact.
    • Langford, Marciano, Corbett:

These fighters would be included for their unique skillsets and contributions to the sport, particularly Langford's versatility and Corbett's role in the transition to modern boxing.
    • Liston and Foreman:

Liston, a formidable opponent known for his strength and Ali, would be contenders due to their memorable fights and power. Foreman's durability and power also make him a likely candidate.
    Factors to Consider:
    • Fleischer's Bias:
Fleischer was known to prefer the "old-time" style of boxing, which emphasizes knockout power and a more aggressive approach.
    • Modern Boxing Trends:
The current era of boxing may have different criteria for greatness, such as emphasizing skill, strategy, and a wider range of techniques.
    • Subjectivity:
Ultimately, the "best" boxers are subjective, and there will be varying opinions on who belongs in the top 10.
Note: This is a speculative list based on Fleischer's known biases and the boxing landscape of the past and present. His own rankings would likely have differed slightly, but this list attempts to capture the essence of what he might consider a top 10 heavyweight list in 2025.

Strangely enough i think this is close to what Fleischer would have done. Flesicher did drop Louis down to #6 but i suspect that was due to pressure from old timers.

The only pick i don't think would be as high would be Marciano. I personally rate Rocky very very high (top 10 for me) but Rocky barely made Nat's top 10 and this was before Ali regained the title, before Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Wald etc.

Nat was never going to change his mind on Jack Johnson. Fair enough as he likely saw Johnson live and none of us did.

    Good topic.
