this technology is so new, hard to believe some of the things AI can do.
i'd like to see more cameras with as many angles as possible to tally the punch stats.
this could be useful in the event of a controversial scoring
i don't think we should turn over the judging to AI though. but in the future? who knows?

Not useful for scoring but it would provide interesting talking points.

AI will only get better. I'm not sorry, but human judges are prone to corruption and bad judging, while AI is objective with its analysis.

Today, in certain real world tasks, only the very best humans are better than AI, while AI can outperform the vast majority of humans on certain tasks. In 5 years, AI will be superior to human judges in every way and should replace them to avoid hometown decisions and corruption.

Here is the full fight that was judged by AI. Better than all of the judges in the GGG/Canelo II fight.

I love it. Useful. It's fair and holds both guys to predetermined parameters.

I'm all for adopting new tech is sports. Boxing has to be one of the last if not the last to adopt new tech which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

But having said that I don't think it should ever replace judges as simply punch counting doesn't factor in the power and effect of shots. One fighter could out land another but then be rocked late by a few shots and battered in the final seconds and lose a round but would win the round on punches landed. AI would need to be able to do more than simply count punches landed and thrown, before it should be used to judge fights.

It could be used to simply aid judges and make judges more accountable to a certain degree as the AI could expose when a judge has gotten in badly wrong. We should also allow refs to be able to use instant replays to help them make correct decisions, such as cases of low blows and other fouls.

Seems okay but probably not for accurate scoring especially at this moment, plus using the Canelo/GGG 2 fight as the example looks even worse as Canelo actually did more of the damage & fought really well in that fight.

How is it gonna score how hard and CLEAN the punch was, will it count a punch that was rubbernecked?
How does it count body vs head punches?

How does it score ring generalship?
How does it define EFFECTIVE agression?

In order for AI to work as a judge, it would need to not only count landed blows but the effect those blows had on the other fighter (Did they wobble, did they retreat, did they cover up, did they clinch, did they go down). All landed punches are not equal. A jab does not have as much effect as a right cross or uppercut. And throwing a power shot is more risky.
That said, one day AI will be able to do that accurately and be a more reliable judge that we currently have.

It's an interesting perspective atleast. Even if it's just servicing as a highlights package. I watch all the videos to see what is picked up but I'm also a bit of an AI enthusiast as well. The tech will certainly improve
