I'm going to give amateur boxing a chance for entertainment. I've only watched the Olympics in the past. I'm hoping this is a good event!

The Kosovo team was blocked on the border, that's the only problem. It makes a tournament some kind of illegitimate.

It should be a good event since for the first time they will give big money prizes to the medallists.

The USA doesn't have a super heavyweight.

Regardless, ireland and other nations haven't sent full teams.
The extra weight divisions don't help either.
The seeding is all over the place.
We may see some very weak fighters win medals

    True.
    But the reasons are there.
Altough the financial gain is huge.

Yurii Zakharieiev looks like he's gonna be the next Ukrainian star to come through. Only just turned 19, Won every Gold medal possible in the youths. And is now kicking ass in the seniors, won his first two fights here easily forcing standing counts in both. He is very physically strong for his age.

Such a unique style compared to a lot of Ukranians.

Defense is almost entirely his upper body movement and in built radar..plus swarming his opponents and not letting them set themselves to counter. Almost like a Cuban Eastern Euro Jung-Koo Chang sandwich of styles.

Did anyone watch some of the finals?

I didn't watch it super close, maybe I should watch again but I feel like the Armenian was dudded in the super heavy final.

I had Chaloyan winning as well, but it was close so I don't mind Petrovskii getting the nod.

Despite most of the top fighters not being in this year's world championship, it's still pretty good. Tomorrow Andy Cruz and De La Cruz will be fighting for gold. And I'm curious to see whether this kid Jahmal Harvey can win gold.

Apparently Gazprom is now a major benefactor of the AIBA..paid off their debts so they can continue. :eeek:

    That stinks to me.
