Ainiwaer Yilixiati vs. Ryosuke Maruki, 10 rounds @ middleweight

 

Yilixiati looks kind of like an equal thirds cross between Robert Guerrero, actor Robert Knepper (played Rodney Mitchum in the latest season of Twin Peaks), and Steven Yeun (played Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead).

Round 1

Yilixiati tents his knuckles together but keeps his elbows wide at the bottom of a triangle guard. Maruki tries jabbing through a narrow gap left between the wrists but Yilixiati squeezes them shut before the jab, aimed between his thin mustache and equally thin wisp of beard, can reach. Yilixiati now begins to assert his own jab after Maruki grows discouraged and circles away. Maruki's head snapped back several times by the jab. Yilixiati mixing in body shots now, harrying Maruki around the ring. Maruki tries squatting low and belting a hook into Yilixiati's side but can't back him off. Quick slap-hook on the chin at the bell from Yilixiati.

Even more primitive musically than my favorite cassette in my teens (a bunch of music "inspired by" the video game Mortal Kombat, some of the cheesiest junk ever to be a guilty pleasure of mine )

Round 2

Yilixiati punishes Maruki with incisive jabs and ramrod crosses, bashing his orbital bone until there are leaks sprung from several places around Maruki's left eye. Blood obscuring his vision, Maruki begins to squint that eye as he backpedals helplessly under fire. Yilixiati stalking, patiently dissecting Maruki even though he could probably lay into him and take him out now. Maruki bleeding out like crazy and taking a pounding on the body with hooks as well but survives the round, and is even lobbing a few counter shots out.

Round 3

Maruki starts uppercutting with each arm but Yilixiati traps one and holds onto him, and then clatters in some bell-ringers on Maruki's torso as well as some chopping rights on the nose. Lots of clinching now as Maruki backs into the ropes and then lunges into Yilixiati to blanket him. Nice short left hook by Maruki, causing Yilixiati to grin appreciatively while taking an involuntary step back onto his rear heel. Yilixiati now fired up, stalking with greater malice, backing Maruki against the ropes and slashing with hard body shots.

Round 4

Yilixiati pursues Maruki and keeps targeting his left eye when he can, although mostly the guard is held up high enough that Yilixiati must settle for spearing body shots. Maruki tying up when Yilixiati gets close. Maruki shooting his own jab into the inner forearm of Yilixiati's left to neutralize the Ürümqi man's. Kind of a slow round, both conserving energy.

Yilixiati somehow is only 26.

I'd believe he was 46.

 

The relative "breather" continues...

Maruki's corner has done a great job keeping his cuts under control. He is now able to dance around in a peekaboo stance, picking off most of Yilixiati's jabs while retreating and not throwing much himself.
