Now I’d always suspected his power was overrated but last night sort of confirmed it for me. Don’t get me wrong he hits hard but he certainly doesn’t have one punch KO power. Or is it just a case of better opposition? Sort of like Golovkins last couple of fights?
He throws lots of shots and is quite accurate so the accumulation usually does for his opponent rather than a single shot.
He has good power. Although no doubt enhanced by stuff a little stronger than CellTech and T-Bomb. Not Wlad type power though. The main power guy in the next couple years will be Sirenko. Watch for some NASY highlight reel KO’s from that creature.
Getting a bit over seeing this kind of silly hate when this kind of thing happens. If someone who is viewed as one of the top guys either doesn't KO someone, or even struggles to beat them - there is a reasonable chance that other person is tough as nails themselves and we should be stoked there was a good competitive fight. Joseph Parker had been blowing people away for ages and then couldn't knock out Takam, AJ needed a ref to help finish Takam - somehow that means AJ and Parker's power is overrated. No, what happened is Takam has good defense, rolls well with punches and has an EPIC chin. Parker has good power, Joshua has huge power, both guys are good fighters, but when you are at the top 20 area there are going to be challenges to winning. I had high hopes for this fight being better than people expected and it delivered, I am gutted to see people not realising that the only disappointing thing about it was the premature stoppage.
Takam has a pretty good chin and once I've considers takam expended no energy from actual fighting to win, he took some great shots. He was hurt multiple times and there wasn't a chance he was capable of seeing the final bell, non, zero ad zilch. But Aj has very good power with heavy hands but he's not a puncher like Wlad used to be, and I fully believe Lewis had more snap on his shots with bass intentions. Why are so many so attached to one's power and the knock out being so important. Aj has more than enough power than ever could be needed. It's what Aj has inside is what makes him so great. So much more important than power... can't be greatly great without having the IT FACTOR. And the IT factor comes from within
Fyi: povetkin tko over takam in a war, fighting hard will fatigue you faster than anything else. Takam fought with povetkin for 7,8 round where he could had done better. Similar level, there's a single level between povetkin and takam , nope povetkin in no way shape or form has close to Aj's power. Some of you don't understand why certain fighters can hurt some but not others that are supposed to be more chiny. There so much more that goes into hurting one than power. Power isn't even the top attribute. Power is so much less than many of you seem to have to always fall back on. The placement and timing of the shot has way more to do with damage than simply power. Many of you should pay attention, high attention to what I'm telling. If there's any of the "knowledgeable" poster on here could ever refute what I'm claiming, please feel free. Because that would mean you need help TOO. Picking fights is one thing with unknown fighters. I know Aj, I know povetkin, Aj is levels above in power, talent both highly talented but povetkin is decades late for his measurements in this hw division
Povetkin's KO was a mix between perfect (or bad - depending on your perspective) timing, combined with Povetkin being a walking chemistry set in that fight. I've been saying that for ages, this outcome just confirmed it. Folly to those numpties who said that Takam wouldn't land a punch or get past R3
Joshua was actually play hitting Takam compared to what Povetkin was doing. By rnd 4 he looked mugged and was dropped. Does anyone really think the same punch count from Povetkin will do the same as Joshua? lol Two different fights and one where Takam was in better shape and yet could barely stand with every solid shot landed from joshua. He was hurt much easier if not stunned while being picked apart. parker ?well according to him joshua was average so theres that....
Wait a second, you're the second person on here that's posting it was a good competitive fight. Exactly what do you mean and where are you coming from ? Are you coming from there were some competitive rounds or did you feel the fight was close and the stoppage ruined takams chances ? I literally had the fight 10/0 with kd. I remember there were rounds where Aj didn't simply break him down with no reason to fight smart. I also feel Aj was at least 15lbs heavy and should focus solely on getting down to the low 240's before starting a new camp. That's critical, he's becoming too large and it's hindering his ability greatly. I couldn't ever claim that fight as being competitive, and such the stoppage didn't bother me that much. It only halted Aj's attacking which was on the verge on another kd, and the inevitable tko. Are some of you Wondering what really would had happened if the ref let the fight go even 5/6 second ? Takam was hurt, has nothing left, legs stumbly and takam was just about to sit his ASS and back on the canvas. Sure, could had let it go few more second for the clean kd but I get him, why? When a fighter simply can't win, it's silly to let it keep going. Was winning clearly scoring a kd and hurting him at least 4x not enough evidence to decide who was the clearly superior fighter ? How about the fighter that was spotted not having a single wow moment. Even when be landed clear and flush shots they couldn't have had less impact. Maybe it's me, maybe Aj was the one in the verge of gassing from such a tough and pressured fight.
Landed flush multiple times on Takam although most of his shots were wild fresh air jobs. My takeaway was his power is overrated.
OK sorry, I meant it was more competitive than expected - there were competitive rounds but Takam wasn't robbed of anything other than possibly getting a UD, Joshua would probably have been gassed in the 11th if not for the stoppage but it didn't seem like Takam was going to be likely to be able to put him away. I've been saying in the lead up to this fight that I expect it would be much more competitive than most people expected but also highly confident that Joshua will win it. The fight came out how I expected, it's just that it's all relative. I think I feel Takam was in better shape than you suggest, and had fight left in him - but I don't think he was very likely at all to win if it were left to go on. I think it was more likely than not that Takam would have survived to the decision if it weren't a British stoppage, however.
AJs power? theres nothing wrong with AJs power. Theres been no boxer who actually has 'one punch' KO power that he hits you with 'one punch' and you get knocked out. Now I know people don't mean it literally but all the big punchers have won by points. Wasnt Foreman deemed to have one punch KO power? yeah well he's won fights by points too. Is Wilder the most powerfullest puncher? yeah he punched and punched Stirverne and he couldnt knock him out.
How could you judge ones power OFF air misses ? I'm sure he couldn't miss so fast the air following put takam down. Aj has very good power, Lewis is a level above and wlads a couple levels above. Still great power because he knows how to use it and land it. Power, it's the least important attribute needed. I mean paulie type power is a hindrance but power is so over rated. It's literally not even needed to be great while many other attributes are indeed needed to become a great fighter.
Overrated, yes. When someone says “they’re more of a cumulative puncher and it takes several to knock someone out” that, in other words, they have less knock out power Notice it took Joshua several landed shots to hurt Wlad enough for the stoppage Then after this recent fight yesterday , I don’t think he has a ONE-shot power like many thought guys like Tua and Wlad and Tyson..... that was real, one shot, bone crunching knock out power
