I could be mistaken, but if my recollection isn't too burnt, you rank AJ higher as an ATG heavyweight than you rate GGG as an ATG middleweight?
I've never "officially" rated AJ, but I would say GGG is currently "ahead" of AJ in divisional terms - however, 160lbs is so deep in comparison to unlimited, that may very well be the case.
I only asked because I dimly seem to recall you saying GGG was not even in your top 50 middleweights. But if you did say that, I don't remember when the post was from. It could have been from 5 years ago, and that's if indeed you even actually said it (I might be remembering incorrectly). I personally think it's premature to rate AJ, Wilder, or Fury. They have a wide open field, and at least one of them will probably tank their reputation in the next 18 months one way or another, provided they all seem closer to mixing it up.
Last time around I think the argument was over whether or not Golovkin made the top 40. I think that's more pertinent now than then... Yeah, no ranking for any of those guys yet. My thoughts are based upon a surprise retirement from AJ.
I regard Mike Tyson as an ATG heavyweight based on his heavyweight unification run when in his prime. That consisted of 8 fights: Trevor Berbick KO2 (wins WBC title against reigning WBC champ) Bonecrusher Smith W12 (wins WBA title against reigning WBA champ) Pinklon Thomas KO6 (former WBC champ) Tony Tucker W12 (wins IBF title against undefeated & reigning IBF champ) Tyrell Biggs KO7 (undefeated Olympic Super Heavy champ) Larry Holmes KO4 (Hall of Famer) Tony Tubbs KO2 (former WBA champ) Michael Spinks KO1 (wins lineal championship against undefeated Hall of Famer) Joshua is currently on a 7 fight unification run: Charles Martin KO2 (wins IBF title against undefeated & reigning IBF champ) Dominic Breazeale KO7 (undefeated contender) Eric Molina KO3 Wlad Klitschko KO11 (wins WBA title against future Hall of Famer) Carlos Takam KO10 Joseph Parker W12 (wins WBO title against undefeated & reigning WBO champ) Alexander Povetkin KO7 (former Olympic Super Heavy champ) It's not all about CV, but if Joshua beats the Fury v Wilder winner to claim the last alphabet belt & more importantly, the lineal championship, he will have done what Mike Tyson did over the same number of fights. Should that fight occur & if Joshua were to win, I think it well & truly gives him a claim to ATG status.
Too soon. Joshua would need to beat the Wilder-Fury winner and successfully defend the undisputed title for 5-6 years against top 10 competition in order for him to be a Top 15 ATG HW, which he has the potential to do.
The guy barely beat Parker who has dog **** boxing IQ. His best win is a boxer who was inactive for nearly 2 years and in his 40's. If that makes you a top 15 ATG HW then damn, Joe Smith Jr must be a top 15 LHW for beating Bhop.
