Ive been very surprised by the hype around AJ after his victory at the weekend Yes he won a version of the HW title which not many people will argue should still be with the rightful Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury, against a guy who nobody rated before the fight and rate even less after the fight. Imo Tyson Fury would deal with AJ in a more convincing fashion than he dealt with Wlad yet i see many people on both this forum and the general forum saying he will beat Fury convincingly So my question is, what do AJ have that Wlad does not based on what we have seen so far? And for me stating Wlad is past it and that is the reason Fury convincingly defeated him and beat him up does not stack up as an argument considering he put in what many consider a career best performance vs Pulev only a year earlier Discuss :bbb
I'd fancy AJ to win not due to boxing skill but just down to power. Fury isn't a big hitter and he hasn't got the best chin AJ said against Martin he would take 1 or 2 punches to be able to deliver 5 back. He could do the same against fury I reckon and finish it early. No matter how much skill you have, power and speed are never easy to stop And I very much doubt AJ would be like klit and scared to pull the trigger Edit: I'm not saying AJ would breeze past fury, I'm just saying what I think could happen
There is a reason why Wlad was scared to pull the trigger tho, and it was due to Tysons superior skill levels and countering ability, it wasnt like he was scared for no reason. as i said Wlad came out only 2 fights prior in his most aggressive form and blew away a guy who many thought he would struggle with and lose too You think Aj would just come out and blow Fury away? a guy who has been boxing and fighting all his life? People thought exactly the same prior to Dusseldorf yet Fury proved them all wrong, why would this be any differant? I appreciate AJ is a beast of a many but where are the tools fighters needs to beat other top fighters like Fury? Skill, stamina, inside game etc etc, ive not seen this from AJ yet (yet i appreciate he hasnt really had the chance as most of his opponents are looking at the lights after a few rounds For me the questions that were asked after the Whyte fight are still there
I agree nothing has really changed at all in AJ's game, but like you say it hasn't needed too. Maybe I'm caught up on this hype train of knocking everyone out convincingly, I was even sold on this joshua v Martin fight been a good fight, due to some posters on here and sky saying it's 50/50. I actually believed it unfortunately. I suppose we could all have 10 pages of debate on who would win. You can talk all scenarios for both boxers, but it all changes once they're in the ring. Hopefully we'll see this year or next year
Better than the usual ten pages of trolling :good Hopefully we do see it next year but we have seen this kinda talk from Hearn before, id be surprised to see AJ fight anyone considered a threat for at least another 4 fights if we are lucky
They hype maybe unwarranted but seriously people are surprised? When you have a guy who knocks out his opponents early people tend to get excited. Tyson Fury at the same stage looked nowhere near as impressive.
This is my feeling also I feel Aj would be perplexed and utterly confused against the Furious One, with Fury fighting on the back foot and picking Aj off at will
He has no fear of throwing punches, you can have all the tools in the world but if you refuse to use them then they're pointless. Wlad has everything needed to beat fury, he was just scared, joshua wouldn't be. He's become ridiculously over rated since the wlad fight, people seem to have forgotten wlad was a walking punchbag basically. Cunningham completely outboxed fury, McDermott beat him, and he's been put on the floor by guys with feather fists. He has the perfect recipe to beat wlad but it won't work against other big guys who arent afraid of him. Fury is big and awkward with good head movement. That's about it, he doesn't have much power, chin is questionable plus his footwork is clumsy and he throws slaps and arm punches. AJ will land a lot more than wlad did, just depends whether fury can take it.
Agree with this. Wladimir and Joshua are not the same. The idea that Fury is some expert on the back foot is ridiculous. Prior to that fight what did he do which was so impressive? The win vs Wladimir was good but he was in with a guy who throws very little.
I disagree with alot of this... He was easily outboxing Cunningham until he got caught up in showboating and got caught when going backwards and landed on his ****, he was out down hard and got up rallied and came back to ko him The first McDermott fight was his 9th pro fight and Big john was in his his 30th? He then came back to silence any doubt two bouts later The reason why Wlad did not throw punches is due to what was coming back when he did, similar to the only fight Pacquaio has been gunshy in when he faught Floyd (has a Fury Floyd comparision, who'd have thought it?)... Suppose the next Wlad fight will tell us more, if he can do it again surely the Furious one will get the credit he deserves
Don't think the pac fight is a fair comparison, as wlad is always reluctant to let his hands go, unlike pac. I also think it was the fact tyson got into his head that he didn't throw any punches, as he was that way from round 1, again unlike pac who tried to land but became gun shy as the fight went on. I really don believe it was Furys supposed 'superior skill' that caused wlad to come out from the opening bell and refuse to throw. He had no trouble landing in the 12th but by then it was too late. If wlad can figure out his mental problems then I would fully expect him to prove in the rematch that his reluctance to throw shots had nothing to do with fury being more talented than him. Wlad has everything needed except the mental strength to beat fury. Also fury was down on the cards against Cunningham and was being out jabbed IMO.
He absolutely schooled Dereck Chisora for 11/12 rounds (can't remember when it was stopped) and his footwork and shot selection was pretty impressive that night. Your last sentence is just ridiculous, he bought a p4p top 10 who hadn't been beaten in what, 12 years? The reason he didn't throw very much as has been alluded to previously was that whenever he did Fury was slipping and catching him. Fury may not be bang as hard as the other heavyweights but at his size getting caught like that repeatedly will take it's toll.
Every criticism you launched on Fury could apply to Muhammad Ali right after his first Liston fight. Put down by two lesser fighters? Check. Have a debatable win on his ledger to a lesser opponent? Check. Questionable power and chin? Check and check. Ali turned out good, and beat his era's insane puncher in Foreman. I wouldn't write off Fury to do the same.
I cant believe people are still hating on Fury. Before the Klitscko fight, 'Furys a bum, who has he beat?' After he beats Klitscko 'Furys a bum, Wlad will beat him in a rematch' When he eventually beats Wlad again, I hope he gets some of the respect he deserves.
