From recent GQ interview. AJ doesn't deny that rumors, says that he wants to keep a secret about his sparring sessions:

“In my code, the fighters’ code, it is not good to talk about sparring. If someone invites you to spar, they are inviting you into their secret camp, their inner circle. So I don’t think it is fair to betray that trust by talking about it... I don’t go in there to prove a point. If anything, I like to take more punishment because that is how I learn about myself. What is the point of going into sparring and beating everyone up, when in a real fight the tables might turn and I don’t know how to handle it? I want to practice what it feels like to be hit and hurt. You have to learn how to defend, to be slick when the punches are raining down.”

Hes absolutely spot on imo with what he said. However, I really hope those rumors aren't true.

Those rumors are probably true but it's just sparring. Doesn't mean much and it's usually the more casual set that will try to get a fighter that they don't like for not being perfect. Nobody was perfect, not even Mike Tyson.

Bull****, Wlad beating a young lion would give him tremendous upside for his legacy.

Really depends on how good Joshua turns out to be.

As for the sparring story, as others have said, it means nothing either way.

In other words he has been taking a beating during sparring and does not wish to talk about it.

Btw no one practises getting ko'd, in or out of sparring.

Im a big fan but if im honest ive only seen 1 mean crisp shot landed properly on Joshua in his entire professional career and he threatened to do a little dance after it. Also enough rumours working their way around to make a fan a tad nervous.

Or it was just a great shot by Whyte and he carries power no doubt, and training talk is training talk weve heard it all before from many many training camps of many fighters over the years that turn out to be jack. In a sense i sorta hope Vlad does land one on him just to see what happens and wether a china chin is something we can write off as hearsay or something that may well shape how the rest of his career goes.

'' I like to practice to be hit and hurt"

No one in their right mind goes into sparring with the intention of getting hurt.

The whole point of the sport is doing your best to hit while not being hit.

AJ is just trying to save face and put a warrior slant to his numerous beatings that he's recieved in sparring from smaller guys who have left him flat on his back as soon as they touched his chin that was protected by padding.

How come hes getting smashed around and knocked down in sparring yet when it matters against top 15 world ranked heavyweights he is just destroying them?

    1. That's not the same as practicing being KO'd

    2. As he said, having tough wars in sparring will better prepare you for tough fights and having to face real adversity in the ring.

There appears little doubt Joshua has a suspect chin.

He has tremendous offence though so the question becomes can you get at his chin before being pole-axed yourself?

It's what makes him exciting to watch both for his fans and fans of other fighters.

I hope he gets past Klitchsko & we see a new exciting era in boxing.

    No you are simply wrong.

Tough wars in sparring only wears down your resistence and needlessly puts mileage unto a fighter through wear and tear.

If you are consistently getting hurt in camp, it is not good for your health. it just accelerates the brain damage. Basic common sense. It doesnt suddenly make you grow stronger, This isnt dragonball lol.

There is no wisdom in Joshua's words only foolhardy pride.

    Agreed on both counts.
