The belts are irrelevant. Fury and Joshua are #1 and #2 and should fight. If the WBO or whoever decides to give the belt to Usyk or Parker or Joyce for beating Usyk or Parker or Joyce, who cares ? The WBO started out its history at heavyweight billing Damiani v DuPlooy as the world's heavyweight championship, back in 1989, when Mike Tyson was as undisputed as it gets. Why people give these alphabet belts so much credit i don't know.
Slip cross on Pulev is a different kettle of fish to the same sequence on Fury. No way does he pull that on Tyson
Usyk has a very good chance of beating Tony Dosh PPV then the obligatory rematch clause kicks in and Fury fight gone should he get beat again in the rematch. Drop the belt and the winner fights Usyk may be the best solution to get the fight on - if T. Dosh PPV really wants it.
The whole boxing business these days is more chess politics than boxing and about time the people running the sport banned all this contractual rematch shyte with the next challenger simply top of the list in the rankings. This would also encourage defeated champion to fight more regularly to work their way back to the top.
I’m not convinced he wants it yet, lads. Like most people I was massively underwhelmed by his reaction when asked about Fury. I’m not saying he’s in anyway ‘scared’ but I’m thinking he would like another run out or two before he faced him. He’s evolving as a fighter and he needs to solidify that style before he has the biggest fight of his life. I think most of us agree that Fury would be favourite. Personally, I think he outboxed Joshua on the outside and roughhouses him on the inside. He’s got 2 stone on him for starters.
Sky’s new press release doesn’t fill me with hope. the fight is set for May, BUT the WBO. The BUT is always a bigger issue then made out.
This is exactly it, Joshua is getting pushed into a fight he is not really ready for, he has only had 25 pro fights and is still dusting the cobwebs off the Ruiz loss. Another 3 or 4 good wins and he will be in his absolute prime and coincidently Fury will probably just start to be on the turn (if he lasts that long in boxing due to his temperament). Boxing is also about timing and taking fights at the right time and if he takes the Fury fight now there is no one else left in the division to fight (may as well retire). If he were to smash up Usyk next it would really shut a lot of people up.
I wonder if Fury will drop the WBC belt to fight AJ if his rubber match with Wilder is ordered by the courts. Could be a situation where Fury and AJ fight next for only the IBF/WBA belts. Undisputed slipping away as we speak unless Fury and AJ both face their obligations first?
