The context is Joshua, although has a belt, is also developing. Look at all champions through history, not every fight was a test, there were some easier fights as well as big headliners. I agree the belt changes his rate of progression but is he to fight Fury/Wilder/ Parker/Ortiz/ Klitschko all one after the other from only 17 fights and precious few rounds.
I think when he gets into the fight and feels some actual power in return from shots that come in fast in response to shots he fires will have a psychological affect on him, as they should.... he has to be careful. Joshua has looked as good as he has PARTLY because he's been fighting mostly slow inaccurate fighters. We'll see soon enough, Joshua is hardly going to vacate to avoid Parker - and it sounds like despite the chest huffing about trying to unify before the end of the year they intend to avoid Wilder until they've had some fun at the top.
Parker looked BAD against a geriatric-style version of Glen Johnson (i.e. Takam). Takam showed no ambition- he didn't even look like he wanted to be there. Breazeale beats that version of Takam. AJ will beat Parker handily. Doubt we will hear the final bell.
Wow. Just, wow. This actually hurts my head, I really can't see how you could watch those fights and get that from them unless you have decided what you wanted to see and were very selective about what you watched.
Yeah sounds like they are building up for there, I *really* hope Parker sorts some of his sht out in regards to guard/heals up as otherwise it really won't be such a great fight as it should be able to be.
This is an ideal fight. It forces AJ to step up to take on a fighter that, if the hype is to be believed, he should already be able to handle. It'll give us a very good indication of where he is right now.
Meh. Breazeale looked tough and showed heart - Takam just looked like he wanted his pay-cheque. Maybe AJ-Parker will happen next, maybe it won't. While I'm sure AJ won't drop the belt, Parker brings nothing to the table financially and it's possible step-aside money will be paid, if the IBF allow it. Haye is the obvious candidate for AJ. There is also Fury, Povetkin and Wilder. I know they are technically tied up, but this is boxing and money talks - stranger things have happened. Plus, I'm not even sure the Fury-Wlad fight will go ahead at this point (despite what is being said).
Doesn't matter who wins really, but young in development fighters, if the fight happens, the real winner is the public.
Actually no, he kept coming forward, threw the kitchen sink at Parker and stayed up and fighting after poundings that would have taken out most fighters. Not taking anything away from Breazeale, he did the same - albeit much less effectively in doing so which is nothing to do heart and everything with skill and speed.
I just can't get over some of the comments about Takam. They say he was poor but he soaked up punches that would ko serious top level fighters. He kept coming all 12 rounds. Fought tough on the inside. The reason why he hasn't fought often enough is because he is a real test. The highest of the gatekeepers out there.
