AJ will not fight Ortiz unless he's literally forced to. For him and Eddie, giving up the WBA belt next month is a price worth paying. I have a suspicion **** all will happen for Ortiz this time around. There's now a window for Hearn and Beyonce to engineer a route avoiding Ortiz. Most likely: - AJ drops the WBA belt cos he's obviously too scared to fight Ortiz and is worried about his next payday - Wilder goes back to avoiding Ortiz (and everyone else who can stand on their own feet and is sentient) in case he loses before his chance of a big payday v AJ in the next 6 months or so - So, essentially Ortiz will get to fight neither of the big fights, and end up against Ustinov. It's what happens after thisWBA/mandatory situation that'll be interesting. Where the IBF install Ortiz once he gets the WBA belt; what happened with Parker-Fury, etc... Frankly, I want Ortiz v AJ or Wilder this time around. It's a vastly more interesting fight and really mixes the division up. He also deserves it, and it'll be a beautiful clash of styles. It won't happen unless they have no option, cos AJ and Wilder simply aren't champions; they don't have the mindset of a Tyson or Holyfield. Dropping the WBA belt and fighting Pulev makes AJ look like a ***** but he can use the excuse of 'I wanna fight Wilder' to mitigate. I believe that fight will actually happen, so in six months or so, I think it'll look like this (losers in brackets)... WBA: Ortiz IBF & WBC: AJ (or Wilder) WBO: Fury (or Parker) It's anyone's guess what happens then, what with manadatories etc. Thoughts?
The point is he wouldn't want to, even if he could. They are avoiding certain boxers. He's putting short-term cash before legacy, and now he'll be paying the price for that decision. Admittedly, there's too many belts, but a truly great fighter would be able to unify them. Fury was within a whisker of actually doing it after he beat Wlad, but again he made the same mistake of an attempted rematch with Wlad rather than mandatory-then-unify with Deontay.
Wlad's team always insist on a rematch clause in case he loses, I think that is the root cause, along with injuries, mental illness and sanctioning bodies politics which has messed things up a little and slowed everything down.
I read the odd comments on here defending Wilder for his career choice and just shake my head alot of the time... Thinking its must just be sticking up for their country man. So i dont want this to be the same thing... but WHAT exactly has AJ done or not done to suggest that he wouldn't fight Ortiz?? This is a situation we have known about for MONTHS and even before the fight with WK, Eddie Hearn was saying they will have to fight Pulev next as their Mandatory... All he is doing is all they have been saying they were going to do the whole time??
They have to fight ORTIZ as mandatory before Pulev! It's official!... This content is protected Eddie has been deliberately avoiding saying the 'O' word in interviews for weeks now, but is happy to suggest Pulev is next. He simply isn't! They are **** scared of Ortiz!
And how exactly is it Official... The WBA sanctioning body doesnt over rule the IBF... Two sanctioning bodies both enforce mandatory defences... The IBF mandatory has been there for the last year, again he is only doing what he said he would get Pulev out of the way so he can fight others.
True. The IBF enforced their mandatory first so they put Pulev as first reserve in case Wlad retired. Fact is until recently the WBA hadn't ordered their mandatory to be enforced, likely Ortiz's legal case to enforce it was successful. So now Hearn and Joshua have a choice they didn't have before, Pulev or Ortiz. We have to give them time to respond, see if one of the bodies will grant an exception, or who is simply the easier to negotiate with. Ortiz does not have a great record in regards to working with promoters, though that might not be his fault.
Nice story fella but you omitted to start with 'Once upon a time' and end with 'They all lived happily ever after'
After seeing Ortiz recent fights, I don't see too much to fear. AJ is younger, stronger, bigger and to me it looks like Ortiz is on the slide a tad.
Ortiz is not even good. he UD's malik scott :| and when i saw him fight dave allen on the joshua undercard i was laughnig at how poor he looked. Dave allen ran out of gas other wise he wasnt doing a bad job of slipping the shots. This is dave allen we are talking about though. why do people give him such a great shot at beating AJ? i dont know anyone that is screaming for this fight. Would rather see him fight pulev
Ortiz looked **** poor in his last 2 fights and he is rather inactive these days. Surprised Joshua would be scared of him.
They're all scared of him. He's the most technically gifted boxer behind T.Fury. Scales up and down his skills depending on the opposition; doesn't simply go steaming through them, learning nothing. His ability to cut off the ring, punch selection, snapping power, unbelievable footwork, timing. All these skills eclipse AJ's raw power. The only question is his untested chin...
