AJ just has to prove he has enough IQ to keep a small heavyweight with fast hands off him like Fury would do easily if he was in there.
I mean, the most definitive statement he could make in a comeback would be to outbox Ruiz and then grind him down to a KO - so I voted late KO. But a Rahman style one sided thrashing a la Lewis would also erase a lot of people’s doubts. Whether he can do that is highly questionable though, but does open up an interesting new period for Joshua and his development. I will be tuning in.
Just needs to win. Forget about style over substance. If he gets a legit points win after the mental scars of the weekend, that would be enough for me...
Yep. Nice new player on the scene. I liked Eubank Snr's pre fight comment on twitter. Summed it up nicely. I hear he now has a nice Snickers contract.
K.o by mid rounds if not inside 3. He could out box Ruiz in 12 but he probably wont chance it or at least hurt Ruiz first and then stop him late ? All depends what Joshua brings ,its still on Joshua to dictate the fight ,he wont be fighting off any back foot next time and will not be doping hard sparring week before which is a no ,no...it really cost him this fight..a fight he STILL should have won. . This will increase his chances of an early K.O.
Early ko is the obvious one, wiping Ruiz out before he can do anything. That would make a bigger impact overall, rather than showing better skills. It would show although AJ was beaten badly previous it was business as usual, not gun shy, confident. But it’s highly unlikely, Ruiz is a tank for one thing. It’s just not a lot beats a stunning ko.
AJ will need to systematically break Ruiz down in less than 7 rounds. No early KO, in fact he shouldn't even think about KOing him, just let it happen naturally, set up the shots, and avoid the danger. He is going to need to spar Povetkin because he is the closest match to Ruiz, fast/explosive. AJ won't beat Ruiz in a gun fight, once he comes to terms with that, he should be able to succeed with other methods. Combining amateur and pro fights, Ruiz has like 140+, AJ has 60+ That is a lot of difference in experience in the ring, I hope the disaster that was Saturday was more because of AJ's stubborness and pride in repeating the mistakes, rather than his inability to think himself out of the situation and try something new that he didn't plan for. A true champion must be able to think on his feet, adapt to new situations when the game plan goes out the window. I am inclined to believe he simply let his pride get in the way, rather than him lacking the intelligence to adapt.
Beautiful breakdown brother. This reminds me of the Kovalev situation in the rematch with Alverez. It's not the same, but their are similarities.
What he should or what would look more emphatic and impressive? He should play it safe, but more impressive would be the early KO. When is an early KO not the most impressive way to win a fight?
It's price vs thompson all over again. Excuses made and a hasty rematch that is going to end the same way. Joshua would have to conpletely dominate and finish to the point that no 3rd fight is even asked for. Imo he should avoid a rematch. Ruiz will just beat him up again
