I was watching a recent interview with Adam Smith on YouTube and he mentioned AJ was staying with Sky. I don't know if it was a slip up or was talking about the past. Does anyone know if AJ is staying at sky or going to DAZN as expected?
I think the expected was to stay with Sky. Would have had to be something massive for him to go to DAZN. PPV, etc.
Got a link? All the videos I've seen of him recently he's said exactly the same thing, "AJ is loyal, he's been good for us, we've been good for him, we expect him to stay". FWIW, I can't see AJ staying with Sky. It doesn't seem to make sense after signing his "lifetime" Matchroom deal pre-Usyk, which means he can't headline a Boxxer / Top Rank card. There's little to no incentive for Matchroom to put their top fighters on a Sky Box Office undercard rather than with their strategic broadcast partner DAZN. Have to see what happens anyway, likely nothing will be announced until there's more detail on his next fight.
Well I thought it was very interesting that Clarke signed with Aj’s management company but signed with sky’s boxxer as a promotional outfit.
Joshua needs the football casuals and Sky Sports exposure it would take a massive lump sum for him to commit to Dazn before trying to sort PPV etc
Adam Smith has not stated that AJ will stay with Sky. He has said he hopes he stays. There is a big difference. The jury is still out on what's going on but it's going to be incredibly exciting. If AJ chooses Sky, he also sends a signal that he does not believe in DAZN's project.
The direction of travel would suggest Joshua re signs with Sky- they have an established platform and a PPV option. DAZN at the moment have neither.
I just think DAZN is ready with a financial offer that AJ will have a really hard time saying no to. Wouldn't Eddie Hearn recommend AJ to be on DAZN's platform ? If DAZN does not get the right to AJ's future fights then it is difficult to see the platform being a "big boxing player" in the UK.
The "life long" promotional deal penned between A.J & MR tends to lend itself to AJ moving to DAZN now. I'm sure Eddie & DAZN are hoping that when he fights on DAZN he will be bringing revenue through ppv. Now how they set that ppv up will be a strategical route that DAZN will feel can bring in subscribers too. What will also have to be factored in is what if AJ loses again to Usyk. Tough times for Eddie & DAZN. If A.J loses again it could be a serious nail in their coffin.
Game has changed so many times since Earn left Sky but not for the better. 'Wait until you see our December Xmas Cracker Card' - we now have 2 cards and neither are going to see a rush of new subs. The collapse of the BT Sports deal is a huge blow and the public have already seen through Earn's spin. He had a good run on Sky but this DAZN UK delayed broadcast streaming platform is not taking off at all. This time next year, it will be game over unless he actually shows 2-3 great UK cards per month for £7.99 without PPV for existing subscribers. Cannot see it myself and the spin can only paper over the cracks for a limited time - that time must be coming to an end soon.
