AJ Stoppage, was it too soon?

I literally gave the time point. ~1m50s to go in R7. It occurred in the ~10 sec preceding AJ lying on the ropes.

Ref told AJ not to turn around and walk away. AJ disregarded it.

The referee saved him from more punishment. He never really recovered from the first knock down.

For me he showed a lot of heart, as he went 3 more rounds after that brutal overhand which landed behind his ears (worse than chin)

This fight took out a lot from him, not just mentally.

It was a good stoppage. Joshua didn't act like he understood 100% where he was. He wanted (even if subconsciously) to be out of the ring.

And the referee didn't want to have another Adonis Stevenson (yes, he judged that fight as well) on his conscience.

 

No, not too early. Joshua was getting beaten down badly. I don't think he quit either. He was out of it. Ruiz was landing numerous headshots on him. They might appeared half grazing shots, but there were so many blows, he couldn't stay on his feet. I counted about 3 hard blows from Joshua that snapped Ruiz's head back. Then he stepped in closer and Ruiz countered with 4 wild looping punches around his head. They were lightning quick shots.
