This. He doesn’t pace himself well and needs get his weight down. In the Takam fight he kept gassing out, but the ref kept stepping in. Against Ruiz he blew his load too early to the point that he was too tired to even keep his hands up. The ref didn’t help him this time. Kind of reminds me of Bonecrusher Smith not pacing himself against Broad and paying dearly for it. Bruno also gassed out against Smith and Witherspoon and took beatings much worse than what Joshua took. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Dude get a grip LMAO. Joshua was on his feet trying to stall until someone saved him. Tyson was knocked silly and barely even got up but still wanted to continue. Joshua wanted out clearly. Spin it anyway you want but one guy quit the other legitimately got knocked out
He had around ~ 20 seconds from the KD and still wasn't able to PUT the gloves in front of his face, moving forward to show everyone including the ref he's willing to turn the whole thing around and continue to fight. And some ppl asking if it was an early stoppage? My gosh. I can't believe it.
Was the right call by the ref but Joshua didn't help himself. The ref asked him to turn around from the ropes and Joshua's asks him where his mouth piece is. The ref then asks do you want to continue and Joshua mouths yes with a nod and then rather than stepping forwards asks him where his mouth piece is again. The ref then waves it off and that's when Joshua protests.
Lol he thought the referee would give him extra time to recover by spitting the mouth piece out as he did against Klitschko. Thank Goodness the American referee didn't fall for it.
When you get knocked down four times, you have to know that the referee likely is close to stopping it. So Joshua had the obligation to show that he was okay and wanted to continue. Laying on the ropes was a concession that he was not okay, and thus he essentially forced the referee to stop the fight. Everything about that scene said, "save me." Please note that I am not criticizing him for this. I hate when fighters get battered in pursuit of a moral victory of going the distance. It isn't worth it. Joshua took more than enough abuse on behalf of the fans. His quitting/getting stopped may have saved his career. @Aydamn you are taking this way too personally. It's okay for people to disagree with you, and Joshua quitting does not mean he's a lesser man or anything like that.
I thought the stoppage was a bit bizarre when I saw it live but now that I've re-watched it there are no objections from me. Joshua was done.
Good stoppage. AJ was down four times, twice in the 7th, looked tired and disinterested, spat his gumshield and turned his back on the ref. He was done for the night and imo, he would have been KO'd if he'd continued.
Watching the replay, I picked up the ref's count at 8 and counted to 18 then the ref waived the fight of. An incredible amount of time was given to Joshua to continue and he declined to do so.
what I saw was the ref motioning him to come out of the corner but he just stayed there, it was a fair stoppage in my opinion.
The ref saved Joshuas career if not his health. If they allowed it to continue Joshua would’ve just stayed against the ropes praying for it to be stopped or keep taking kees to buy more time. He was completely done.
