Treadmill footwork drill looks effective. Might try that (when the gym is empty so I don’t ****ing fall).
Is he gonna start moving his head when he flurries? - Sitting target. I truly wonder if even a good stiff jab can keep Ruiz off him for a full 12 rounds. Needs the "Parker" ref in there helping out
This is garbage, he`s moving back on a straight line and all they are training is endurance and speed, it was his stationary head that let him down, gotta fire these clowns. This content is protected
At least he's got his hands up instead of by his hip...that's a start. Treadmill drill is quite a clever idea
Will that help weight transference, looks completely stupid, he`s got his hands up? Ruiz had his hands up too which is why AJ didn`t land much on him.
All I saw from AJ against was Ruiz was a lazy jab thrown from the hip. I don't know anything about the drills but looks to me like he was practicing snapping out the jab and getting his hands back where there need to be not by his side. I'm guessing the treadmill drill is to practice throwing shots on the back foot, something which he lacks any skill in doing. So looks like he was working on a couple of flaws from the first fight, but what do I know I'm not a trainer just saying what I see
He needs hard sparring to correct his mistakes. All this fancy stuff leaves your head as soon as you get punched in the face.
How exactly does that help with lateral movement? Going back in straight lines was a big part of his problems in the first fight....
If he can jab and move he'll be OK. We already know he can drop Ruiz. Stay back on the jab until a right hand opening presents itself and he could win by TKO. I think he'll win by points.
What I like in the video is he's not bending forward giving up his height, hands are up and jab comes back high to protect. He needs to spar shorter pressure fighters so that he's comfortable blocking and not ducking when the pressure comes, the rest is effectively moving and keeping distance. He can hurt Ruiz so if he stays disciplined, he can pull off the win. They need to check out how Vitali Klitschko stayed back and brutalized shorter opponents coming forward with the jab alone.
Stop Ruiz getting set with his jab and use your feet laterally. I too am not sure about training movement patterns that train him to move back in a straight line.
