AJ v Usyk has sold out after 24hrs, all 60,000 tickets have been sold already for ringside seats at the spurs stadium, while Wilder v Fury 3 failed to sell to full capacity in last Vegas, does this prove that AJ is a bigger name than Fury and Wilder or that his fight v Usyk is just more appealing than Wilder v Fury 3?

Both. Whilst Fury is undoubtedly the better fighter, I think AJ probably is a bigger draw and also that no one really wants to see a repeat of Wilder Fury. At least AJ Usyk is something new

The only way Fury will be able to become as big of a draw as AJ is if he beats him. Simple as.

AJ is the biggest boxer in the world right now.

Really? I don't see Canelo outdoing Joshua on PPV. But maybe you're right.

Yeah he probably is. Canelo is definitely a bigger draw in the US and that's still the most lucrative market with the odd exception of a Saudi fight when some rich Sheik decides to throw money at an event like Joshua/Ruiz 2 which really isn't a real reflection of a fighters drawing power.

If AJ can build his US fan base then I think he could surpass Canelo but that's a big if and would require him beating Fury and Wilder and that's after getting past Usyk. I suspect he'll never cross over in the US like in the UK as there simply isn't the depth of US fighters at heavyweight for him to grow his brand with to become that big draw over there.

We don't hear about Canelo as much in the UK because of the language barrier. Mexico's population is so massive with huge interest in boxing so he'll always be a megastar regardless. The US has a huge latino population which the UK doesn't.

Out of English speaking fighters then it's obviously Joshua. He's been marketed fantastically since 2012, looks the part and has a great record. Fury is too volatile and hasn't been marketed nearly as well - even now under Top Rank.

AJ isn’t an international boxing star and he isn’t at all popular in the USA

The casual US boxing audience only remembers him for getting bounced up and down the ring by a fat Mexican appearing as a late filler.

AJs popularity is purely with a British and Nigerian crossover audience.

Canelo is the only global boxing superstar currently in the sport.

Tyson Fury could work to join him but he doesn’t fight often enough.

I think you're underestimating AJ's broader appeal. While yes he isn't a big name in the US when I have been abroad I have seen billboards and adverts with AJ can't say the same for Canelo when I'm overseas.

Also look at the international broadcast rights for Joshua/Ruiz 2, seemed like most of the globe was watching that fight. 84 countries on that list.

Chavez jr v Canelo is rated as the 19th highest rated PPV in combat sports history, none of AJ`s fights can match that, also Canelo v Floyd was in the top 5, though that was mainly due to Floyd`s name rather than Canelo`s.
