Most people where I live in the UK don`t know who Canelo is, I don`t think AJ is known much in Nigeria either, thre`s no way of knowing as we don`t have access to AJ`s ratings on TV in Nigeria.
Everyone knows AJ is the economic A side PPV economics money maker. A distinction he shares with Canelo Alvarez.
He is quite well known Canelo by those into boxing. However I think the key facts are that both Canelo and AJ have cross over appeal which is why the generate more money than the other fighters. AJ is massive in Nigeria and the Middle East as well as obviously in the UK. Canelo is massive in the US and across North America and Latin America.
americans dont really care if youre american when it comes to spending money on you. as long as youre the best. then youre practically american already, lol. you dont even have to be the best, you just need to make us think you are.
AJ isn`t massive in the middle-east, the Saudi`s just wanted to house his fights there to make money, it wasn`t based on saudi PPV money coming in.
Dear god, all it proves is that no one wants to see Wilder lose a third time. Some of us told you this was going to happen last year: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...l-fury-wilder-iii.645775/page-6#post-21156432
True MMA not well known in Nigeria but the guys Usman and Adesanya are well known as a result interest has started to rise.
They want his fights because they generate a return and he is big there. Goes on vacations and I don’t know but suspect like Muhammad Ali he is on his way to converting to Islam if not already done.
The events happening in Texas are pretty well attended, but those are happening in much bigger cities. Who wants to go to Vegas in the summer time? It's too hot. That's on top of them doing zero promotion and neither guy having fought in a year and a half. What were they expecting?
The AJ/Usyk fight is just more appealing. It will answer the big question, whether Usyk can hang with the big boys. For me, that is what piques my interest. Along with what plan will AJ bring to the table. Fury/Wilder has my interest as well, just not as intense. The only thing that I want to see is,if Wilder has learmed anything new and can he execute it. If not, we already know the outcome.
Yes Mark, please tell me more of your (clearly) extensive knowledge of Nigerian culture and how much time you've spent in Lagos in order to say with confidence that MMA isn't "really known" in Nigeria.
