No he just got the ref to stop the action and ask to see if he's OK before he can continue.....

Agree, think he’d have stopped him had he been hitting him in those big chunks of dancing from one side to the other. It was like watching kids warming up for PE in the cold.

    False and you know it....

The bell rang , Wilder walked on stable legs to his corner and was ready to continue when the bell rang again and the Ref decides to have him checked out......Wilder did not ask for it, his corner did not ask for it.....Refs do stupid things sometimes.....anyway Ortiz got stopped a few rounds later.

That shows how poor Wilder's résumé is, why in hell would you rematch someone you've already knocked the fcuk out?

I’d be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point. People said all this in the build up to the rematch, he got the money etc. but he proved dedicated enough to reinvent himself to a degree.

He seems to want greatness, whether he gets it is another thing but I think he is trying. There is a lot I don’t like about AJ, but he proved me wrong in the rematch, I didn’t believe he could rebuild like that, I felt he was mentally imploding, but the fact is he had a goal and achieved it.

I agree two fights a year is sad though, it has to limit how much a fighter can achieve in comparison to past greats. He got a job in his hands.

The ending was conclusive, he could have fought a handful of opponents but chose an aged fighter who he'd already knocked out.

Wow a 7 page thread about AJ contradicting something he said two years ago. Luckily Fury never contradicts himself..... oh wait

His reasoning was that Ortiz had him in big trouble in the first fight. It was an admirable rematch in many ways and Ortiz again proved himself to be a quality opponent.

You don't give someone a rematch just because they wobbled you, Wilder was the champ and should have moved on.

It's not about if he did well or not, what champions in HW history rematched someone who won some rounds in their first outing?
