I really don’t understand Wilder or any boxer when it comes to step aside money. I’d take it in a heartbeat. Imagine getting £5-10m for doing NOTHING. Why doesn’t he be smart and negotiate a fight with the winner for taking step aside money?

Both should win their fights if they are genuine World Champions and get on with their jobs.

Both men have made a fortune already so all this fear of losing money is farcical.

Deep down, many have doubts about how good both are so get these two fights on and then there is real substance to the hype when they do meet in the ring.

That’s true in a perfect world but this is heavyweight boxing.

If either gets clipped they are out.

if either loses we will never see the AJ vs Fury fight with either guy in their peak. If either loses thy will need to go away rebuild or rematch etc etc. Another 2/3 years down the line both guys are mid 30’s and it’s another lost generation.

we are on the cusp of the two best heavyweights of our generation fighting in the primes for an undisputed champion why would any fan in their right mind not want that?

Before AJ-Ruiz I and Fury-Wilder I, everyone was talking about AJ-Wilder as the two best heavyweights of our generation fighting.

Once they'd both lost (one avenged, the other embarrassed) that fight lost most of its hype and became another fight that'd be interesting to see, but not the end of the world if it doesn't happen.

AJ-Fury will be the same if one of them is convincingly beaten.

We all want to see the best fight the best, period, and it doesn't happen often enough for many of us... But in truth, if one of them loses it'll take a lot of the shine out of this potential fight and we'd probably be less disappointed in hindsight than we think we would looking at it now.

    IMHO.

100% AJ won't vacate WBO belt, he will fight Usyk if it comes to that and beat him. I feel quite confident in saying that.

Usyk is a brilliant boxer, and at CW has impressive wins unifying the division however the weight doesn't suit him at all, he has had 2 fights and looked poor both times against very limited opposition. To me he is ageing badly and has possibly left it too late to move up, he is not performing that well against gatekeepers so how will he perform against the best or second best HW in the division?

If your not a certified knock out artist at CW, and are not the biggest man in the world, what chance will you have of carrying good punch power at HW, against far bigger men?

Chisora is short and crude, so Usyk was able to box and move as the range was not as much of an issue, but against a 6'6 well schooled puncher, with decent feet he will have no tangible advantage and will likely get stopped.

When you add in to the mix the fight likely being in the UK on a Matchroom show with every single advantage going to AJ he would need multiple knock downs to get a decision and I don't see it as IMO he does not carry the power or explosiveness at HW.

    On top of that...

Usyk had a 4" reach advantage over Del - he'll be giving up a 4" reach advantage to Joshua.

If you're intending to keep out of trouble, that's huge.

Its bizarre, a couple million now and then an immediate shot at the winner would be much more profitable than getting knocked out by Fury in a fight not that many people want to see right now

I want to see the fight but the context is this is a very poor Heavyweight Division and generation.

Both fighters have already been defeated in the ring by Andy Ruiz and John McDermott respectively.

Both may have made a fortune but we cannot talk about greatness when there is only a handful of genuine tests faced between both of them.

The Saudi aspect has put a bit of a downer on the fight so it may be better for both to get these two fights out of the way in the summer and hopefully the fight can then be made at the end of the year in front of UK fans at Cardiff.

Indeed... Surely if you were Wilder you'd take the step-aside, get in a tuneup or two against a Chisora, Parker, Povetkin, Pulev or Ortiz to blow off the cobwebs and cross your fingers that AJ beats Fury (because Fury beats him again all day long, he's got a better chance with AJ, plus a bigger payday).

Name a great heavyweight that has never lost. Your talking pure waffle if you think this is a poor heavyweight division. It’s the strongest it’s ever been with fights all over the place without the politics.

    AJ
    Fury
    Wilder
    Ruiz
    Whyte
    Usyk
    Parker
    Joyce
    Hrgovic
    The bounty ducker

I would watch any combination of these fights. They are all unbelievable fights

he must actually believe he beats Fury which is delusional. like its boxing there is a chance but he is done if he loses again, it seems like a risky business decision

It's either that or he's actually expecting to get a huge cut just to step aside...

That or he doesn't believe both Fury and AJ would sign a contract to give him the fight afterwards - and it's not as if they've been quick and easy to get to agree to contracts between just the two sides, is it?

Indeed... If it doesn't make sense, there's probably either something you're overlooking or something you don't/can't know.

That or you're just not good at joining the dots (but how many of us admit to that?)

Just throwing it out there after the debacle on fury’s side.

it wouldn’t surprise me if AJ says they can’t be trusted further down the line and renegotiates the original deal.

I know I would the Saudis are pro AJ and Hearn. They will just turn around and say the offer doesn’t stand and only Hearn can save the deal.

I also wouldn’t put it past Hearn to organise the AJ vs Usyk fight in Saudi to adjust to the heat, time zone and surroundings.
