AJ v Fury Off!!!

I fail to believe they genuinely thought legally they could get out of the 3rd fight.

They should only have negotiated an AJ fight if their own legal team said "the clause for a 3rd fight in completely invalid and it would be extremely unlikely for the judge to favour Wilder".

I'm don't believe that was the case and they were prepared to take a gamble. Its easy to take the gamble when they are not the ones making the fight. Remember it wasn't Arum who found the money mark. Matchroom were making the fight and it's matchroom who are on the hook with the Saudis. Hearn wouldn't have told the Saudis to find all that money "but be aware the fight may not happen due to arbitration" as no way would the Saudis go all in to stage the fight if there was a good chance it couldn't happen in August as planned.

Arum, Warren and Fury were all claiming the AJ fight wasn't going to happen. They were constantly saying deadlines had passed and it wasn't possible. Why were they doing that? I think Arum knew there was a very strong possibility that Wilder would win and hoped the Saudis were not going to put up the money.

 

What a load of nonsense. It makes zero sense at all and is just a Hearn fanboy fantasy.
Even Hearn himself said when he spoke to Bob he was speechless and had never heard him like that before.
If they thought there was a problem would anybody had an issue if they had turned round and said 'we have a contract we cant get out of so best to wait till later'.

Nobody would have cared too much we would be exactly where we are now with 2 good fights and the big one in December.

Makes zero sense for Arum to do this and devalue Fury at the same time.

None of this has helped Fury.
You have no idea what Hearn was saying to the Saudis, you talk as if Hearn is some naive kid who would have taken it as gospel that Arum would win, while at the same time making Arum out to be the opposite.
It doesn't work like that.
Arum never made any secret of the fact that the Wilder fight might go ahead, whether contractually obliged or not.
He's spoken about this all already.
They did think they would win the contract case, Fury probably hoped so anyway. All of them did when they saw the $75 million per fighter plus the rest was very REAL.
But it went the other way.

You're bringing up a load of unrelated things and conflating them with the contract case. "they were constantly saying deadlines had passed and it wasn't possible. Why were they doing that?" ..... because Hearn was trying to make a huge fight while the pandemic situation was still effecting finances and they didn't believe Hearn could do it. Because it was taking so long to get a meaningful deal or offer. Because they don't like Hearn. Because they felt waiting too long was risky for inactive Fury. Etc.

 

Exactly. They have no motive to waste their own time on the pretense, none at all.

His only answer to this is "But they had nothing to lose, they took the gamble and strung Hearn along and made Hearn look bad"
Which, although a bit silly, is okay as a theory, EXCEPT it only works as a theory if he regards Hearn as an innocent, naive dupe who wouldn't have considered the possibility that Wilder could win or that Arum was over-confident or (as he claims) completely irresponsible.

Yeah, thing is fury isnt that smart, his trash talking is terrible nonsense and he found dosser got him traction on social media but its just tedious.

I tend to stay away from interviews now as its just a load of bollocks amd extremely repetetive., atleast Hearn is smart with it.

 

Edward Earn tried to take all the credit if the fight had happened yet when it doesn’t its all of a sudden “nothing to do with him.”

I'm not feeling any disappointment right now in all honesty just relief. Relief that we're going to hopefully get a very interesting fight between AJ and Usyk plus the entertaining prospect of Deontay getting retired and put out of his deluded misery by Tyson.
From day one never felt any excitement or anticipation for AJ - Fury, not sure why maybe because I felt the fight would be an absolute snoozefest with both guys looking forward to the guaranteed jackpot of a rematch or maybe it's because my gut feeling from the start was that the fight was never going to happen.

Anyway, whatever has gone on behind the scenes for me personally things have worked out for the best with two fights I'm actually looking forward to rather than one I wasn't.

 

Yeah, I feel just as I did about the heavyweight scene as I did right after the Fury-Wilder fight last February. Nothing has happened since, except Covid pandemic, and now we pick off where we left off.
(obviously AJ did fight Pulev in the meantime, but that was never a fight I cared for, ever).

We should count our blessings that things are getting back to normal, and we should get a WBC title fight in July between two of the world's top 3, and a WBA/IBF/WBO title fight perhaps August between one of the world's top 2 HWs and the very talented undefeated former unified cruiserweight champ who has stepped up to the HW division.
These are decent offerings.
Nothing to whine about, considering what's been happening in the world.

This makes no sense lol, if the wilder contract wasn’t in place the fight was on ? Fury, Arum and Warren said as much. So yes, Eddie Hearn has nothing to do with a Fury - Wilder contract and it’s nothing to do with him, unless you know otherwise?

 

Does anyone else here feel like they’ve been taken for a ride. I got sucked in to the hype and was so excited about the fight. Feel like I have had the wool pulled over my eyes here. The arbitration was not a story of back and forth, the findings were completely one sided. I feel like we have been taken for mugs here personally.

Most annoying part is I see at least one of Fury/AJ losing their interim fight, if not both

 

If AJ and Fury don’t look past them then they’re easy work. Anything can happen in boxing though, the right versions of themselves need to turn up.
