What is it telling us? That PBC are blocking it or AJ ducking it?

Ortiz team said 7 weeks isn't enough time. It was offered to them and they declined it. I don't know whether Ortiz himself had any say in that or whether it was Al Haymons call.

Ortiz is a complete red herring that Eddie Hearn is touting to make it look like they are trying to get a competitive fight. As Paulie Malignaggi pointed out in a recent interview not a chance in hell they would stick him in with a southpaw this close to fight night.

Ortiz team confirmed the duck pubilically now changing their excuse of 7 weeks is not enough time (he fought Wilder on less) to that Hearn made a lowball offer ( we all know its bound be atleast 3 x whatever he earned against Wilder).

Hopefully Hearn comments on it soon so we can get the truth.

Why didn’t they match Rivas with Joshua?

More so than his mouth I'd say. Hate the false sense of excitement he tries to put into all of his crap.

Exactly. People are judging him by his appearance its pathetic. I really enjoy watching him fight, been following his career since the beginning, would love to see him get a shot against the big man.

Do you rate Ruiz mate? How do you think he would do against Joshua?

I do, mate. I enjoy watching him. He’s really fluid for a fat lad. His shot selection and hand speed is beautiful at times, it defies his size. I think he would give Joshua a much better fight than what Miller would have done and he’d have more success landing his shots...The only thing is he does stay in the pocket too long and takes too many shots as a result. He’s very durable but Joshua would make him pay eventually.

I can't see why they'd go with Ruiz. He looks terrible, so the casual audience won't buy into it and people who are into their boxing will know, even though he's better than his appearance suggests, he still stands little to no chance against Joshua, and that's not just him, that goes for everybody outside the top 5 or so. I liked @Holler 's theory in another thread in the general section suggesting that they're throwing people of the scent with saying Ortiz is out, so that it's a bigger story if they were to announce it is actually him. He goes into more detail and it is very plausible. It's also wishful thinking, because Ortiz is more or less the only credible opponent they can go for. It's hard to make a case for how Hunter is credible enough either or how he deserves it. I wouldn't give Hunter much, if any chance against Joshua, but for some reason I wouldn't mind seeing him get it, seeing as how limited the options are. At least he's actually quite good, fit enough to fight at a pace, he's game and he'll come to win and he's coming off the back of a couple of decent wins and had that good performance against Usyk. As I said, I don't give him much of a chance against Joshua but I think Hunter will relish being the underdog and I think he fits the mould as the live underdog who took his opportunity when he got the lucky call to have a crack at the champ, when they needed somebody to step up and take the challenge. I take it you've all saw Rocky?

I still hope it's Ortiz, and I'm not ruling that out just yet. I suppose we'll find out soon enough. Maybe even tomorrow?
